we have recently been doing the kata superempi and have now been told it is in the wado ryu sylabus as the 16th kata for years i was under the impression otsuka only had 15 ------------ true or not the story goes that otsuka was teaching superempi and one day forgot a part of the kata so it was not continued believe it or not this quote was from sensei sakigami head of wado kai england can any one shead any further light on the situation and your thoughts about the kata -------- i do like the kata very much but it does not seem like the standard wado kata

no offence taken i agree all the emphasis on hip position as for not liking the stance it is just a training aid used to strengthen and stretch you are vulnerable but you wouldnt fight in that stance anyway do you agree? are people saying there is no name for the stance or do we just not know?

yeh me too but gyaku means opposite and zuki means strike what is the stance called (it must havw a name) aahhhhhhh!!!

ive got both books by ohgami red and black why didnt i think of that thanks but has it a name??????

i have always refered it as either junzuki dachi and gyakuzuki dachi the only reason i mentioned zenkutsu dachi was to seperate the stance from the strike zenkutsu being the nearest match i can find my instructors have always referred as junzuki and gyakuzuki stances but they are either front punch or reverse punch no actually stances OR ARE THEY ????

thanx the question was asked because we teach a slight movement back and slightly wider when striking gyaku to help enable more hip twist teaching it i was asked what is the name of the stance i know gyaku can be thrown from most stances but is there a name for the change from Zenkutsu - dachi to gyaku cheers

could anyone help i have been practicing katate for a number of years and have been asked which to many must be a very simple question one that i have never really thought about Zenkutsu is a stance guiaku-zuki is the strike what is guaku stance called its bugging me help would be appriciated thanx
