it depends on the instuction some find it difficult because children have a short an attention span so they're training must be mixed with fun

there is no right path just lots of wrong ones if that makes sense we all live and learn -
dont think karate as as fast track system or you will be disapointed if you want fast track choose kickboxing or free style

your never to old you do what you can to the best of your ability and if thats not good enough you probly shouldnt be doing it

i think the principle of all the tension katas ie seishan, ; Sanchin are probly the most valuable in what ever system you train not for the fact it is done slowly or under tension but it starts you understanding the need of dropping your hips and the term ive heard alot called rooting (to the ground). it blows my mind when i think about the reason behind these katas

it takes alot af courage to get up in competition more so for kata i feel because theres no one else to blame if you get beat by a bettewr fighter then so be it but make a mistake in kata and your on your own good luck to all

trekmann you have the right attitude it will help with your training long term

its coming more and more into lots of style mainly competition clubs whatever style none in particular even some traditional clubs tell students to do it in kata but they find it difficult unless you bring it into basics therfore for me the basics change meaning again im probly wrong!!!!!!!!!

i may be wrong but my learnings on that refer to one bieng a part of arm that blocks the other being the movement of the arm in or out neither in fact are wrong

i have seen in some competition kata that people slap there own gi to give the appearance of speed it not only makes me laugh i also down grade the kata... when will they learn

my theory on that one is that your weeker arm is more relaxed therfore quicker and more powefull may be wrong but i have the same problem and its my excuse

if the jujitsu quote was aimed at me then i have not been offended every one has there opinion but if you feel your art to be the best i must assune you have looked at and tried all martial arts and assessed them all. well done!

sorry you are correct that is the way we do it in our dojo but i have known other clubs not bow on otaga ni rei but on sensei ni rei even though they have been the senior rank

i think bad mouthing is silly and cant prove good or bad theres no bad martial art just unsuitable ones for you and me!!! BUT as they say lifes about opinions
