Welcome , What styel of karatedo do you study ?

I am just wondering if anyone might know of a dojo in the georgia area that teaches this style of karate . I am currently a student of Motobu ha Shi-to ryu but I am very interested in learning more about this system and there uniqe kata .

I love Shi-to ryu karate for the combanation of naha te , shuri te , and tomori te . I am also in love with kata and the endless supply of bunkai they contain .

I do not belive it is harmefull . I am a shi-to ryu stylist and we do some of the same kata as goju ryu however we do not do the dynamic tension as hard as they do . I found this out after going to a clinic hosted by Higionna Morio Sensei . I also preforming the kata like the goju ryu styles do . If done properly through the diaphram (sp) it should not have any adverse affects. In other words dont pop a vein when doing sanchin .

right now i would say shisochin and chinto ..

I am in a very traditional school and we do fold our gi up after each workout we are also expected to keep the gi as clean as posable. However you do not wash the belt or wear the belt or gi out in public. It is considered disrepectful and does not show humility. we are also allowed only 2 patches if any a dojo patch over the heart and an orginazation patch on the left arm.

I learned both however the open hand blocks are useally used to lead in for a grab and the closed fist blocks are ment as strikes as well as blocks.

I love Shi-to ryu ive been studing it for about 18 years now.......

Sorry i'v never heard of this kata . I have heard fo fukigata ich and ni but never heard of the one you kitte .

I was just wondering what kama kata some of you practice ? I study Shi-to ryu karate and we incorprate alot of ryukyu kobudo and recently I have become infatuated with the kama the only kata i know curently is hama Higa no Kama . welcome I to practice Shi-to ryu I am a student of the motobu ha styel of shi-to ryu . I love this style due to the fact taht i love the kata . we welcome your questions .

It is all part of the art there is something about doing the art they way it has been done for years . This is jsut my oopinion as soem one stated earlier you wouldent take a course in how to shoot a gun and then buy a cap gun would you . everyone has an opinion and this is just mine to each his own. In kenjutsu pracitice is done wiht boken but when you reach and advance rank the kata are preformed with a shinkin (live blade) agin it si part of the art .

I caint really compair a Toakido to a Shuraido . Ive never worn a shuraido everyone says that they are the best . they are by far the most expensive . I myself prefer the Toyo gi's I jsut bought the Tokaido to compaire them . hope this helps There are several places that have write ups on each gi. try http://www.dojowear.com

I recently bought a new tokaido straight from tokaido in japan it is very nice however i still prefer toyo karate gi's they jsut feel heavier and fit better to me .

nihanchi dachi is kiond of like a real wide sanchin you dont get as deep as a shiko dachi and you turn you feet inward like in sanchin dachi. also the shiko in a 45 degree angle is called a sochin dachi at least that is what we call it in shi-to ryu .

From what I know about the jitte it is a japanese varation of the sai . and they were used by the police to defend agenst the sword (?) not sure about that one . Anyway they were used in singles if you look at some of the extenable batons you will see that they look an awfull lot liek an jitte hummmm.

In shi-to ryu kobudo is incorprated into the system . We usually start people with the bo around rokyu (blue belt) and progress from there to tonfa nunchaku sai and kama the later is not taught till around Shodan . The reason some Akido schools will hand some one a boken early in the teaching is becaus it si a sword realated art . Most of the techniques are from Kenjutsu.

I prefer the Okinawan styles .

In traditional karate we wear jsut the white gi . In the other more japanese arts such as kenjutsu and akijutsu (akido ) they use the hakama genarly it is not used in a karate class . Some Kobudo styels use the hakam as well but that is only after yudansh rank has been attained . _________________ Karate is not a sport , it is a way of life . Yes i have heardd of it . I belive it is a kiyon (basic) kata used by some styles for shi-to ryu styles I do not know it myself but I have seen it run . _________________ Karate is not a sport , it is a way of life . Im not sure about the heians but in the pinans we try to end up in the smae spot that we started ive never had a proablem with yondan and godan but sandan has always given me trouble ending in the same spot .
