  1. Allright! I enjoyed reading the three part series. They were interesting to view and I learned a little.
  2. TKD is not the idea art for street fights. The kicks are big and alot of the time too big to get off.
  3. Yoda! Wassup? I like the name. A little unorthodox for a jkd trainer but cool enough. Have fun on the forums.
  4. Skeleton!! that's intense.
  5. Me! I'm just kidding! :spitlaugh:Let's see my sensei is a shihan and is in the hall of fame with the instructor of the year award. Does that make him a good instructor? It's not really aspects that yopu can pull from the person it's all around them. _________________ Joe Cooke Goju Ryu Practitioner [ This Message was edited by: Joecooke007 on 2002-01-26 10:21 ]

  7. Oh chh if you intend on intense work outs on the makiwara you should use soothing ointment so that you do not hurt yourself.
  8. Ok explain this "survivor" to me
  9. Iron Arahat, I agree with you totally. It is very unsafe to practice without a proper teacher. If anybody decides to read this post and doesn't feel like taking heed to this warning I'm telling you now that we're talking worse then arthritis we're talkin' permanent nerve damage. CHH, First of all welcome to the boards. I take it that you also practice Goju ryu. I have an indoor makiwara that I purchased from http://www.awma.com It is canvass and will work like an iron palm bag because the contents withing can vary. It is 3' tall and has striking points on it. i'm also thinking about gettig a clapper makiwara. :karate:
  10. What martial arts magazines do you get? Why would you recommend them? I jsut started getting martial arts and combat sports. it's a great magazine.
  11. ok I've seen advertisements for these funky leg stretcher things that you sit in and they stretch your legs for you. What's the deal with these? Do they hurt? Would you recomend them? Just wondering.
  12. This is bad. Bowing does not infringe on religious rights as a person. We do not ask you to convert to shinto (even though I do practice shinto as a religion a bit) We ask you to bow as a sign of utmost respect for the dojo and sensei and partners.
  13. Oh I forgot to mention I've also seen advertisements for Kime unlike iron palm I have no clue what this even does for you so if any of you could help me out on that one it would be of great help. oh again I myself also condition on a makiwara board very useful. Mine has striking points on it as well. They help develop accuracy and condition hands as well.
  14. Traveling with weapons is tricky. It's best to leave them in your car concealed if you're going somewhere and they need to come. If you're on an airplane you should put them in your luggage. I know that I definitely would not liked to be charged with concealment of weapons.
  15. Angus, you want to know about geksai ichi and ni? I thought that you were a former goju ryu kinda guy? Looks strictly on goju ryu sites.
  16. I keep my guard with my fists both closed and about chin high. this way when you block a technique your other hand is half way through completing a counter.
  17. My gi is made out of lightweight but durable cotton with heavier cuffs on the arms and legs for that satisfying snap sound when properly executing a kick or strike.
  18. This goes against most of what others have told you but you should get as close as possible, this way their kicks have no power.
  19. Does anyone here practice iron palm, body, or arm training? If so how was your training and what can you now accomplish that you used to not be able to do? I am interested in this training because my friend does it and that guy's a flippin' martial arts addict!
  20. There's always that song I hear in stadiums. How does it go? oh oh oh ohhhhhh ah oh oh oh ah oh ah oh. Something like that
  21. Welcome to the forums (great name by the way). Kickboxing is a very athletic sport. Thai boxing is a very good forms of it and a very challenging one at that.

  23. Ok just checkin'.
  24. Good point, SaiFight. It is very good when a student asks question because every once in a while you will learn something from them and they will get better quicker.
