  1. I have begun some training outlined in that book, yes. It is taught along with the physical training you undertake. However it is extremely difficult to do it from a book. I am going to search for someone who can provide guidance.

I really like Gankaku as well. Very dynamic.
  3. I was in the same boat, I left my training for a few years and came back to it. The muscle memory was still there and it took about 90 days for me to get back "into the groove". Good luck, and have fun.
  4. I have seen this performed in kumite...it is very strong and if you do it fast enough, very effective.

Thank you for all of that information P.A.L!
  6. Prince Edward Island, Canada. Under Master Woon-A-Tai
  7. You may want to consider purchasing a book on this topic of Japanese internal arts. "Ki and the way of the martial arts" by Kenji Tokitsu is very informative.
  8. Yeah I've been curious about their training so I emailed them to see what options they have in different areas, etc and if they can't travel, do they have information to other instructors.
  9. I've located several videos demonstrating this both slowly and quickly. Just use your favourite search engine.
  10. I have some limited experience with it. Most of my staff training was on the 6 foot bo. Many of the techniques are fundamentally similar. The intent of the bo is relatively the same as other short weapons.
  11. That website had links to the instructors and the tours they go on in order to teach the class.
  12. I've heard it described in a video as "expertise gained after great personal sacrifice". At the same time the narrator indicated that Qigong could also be attained in other disciplines aside from martial arts. The martial art application of Qigong was described as having a great deal of psychological effort and physical training. This ended up as having the practitioners getting iron body, iron fist, iron finger, etc. which allowed them to perform great feats. One of them was throwing a needle into a pane of glass, and another was hammering nails with the palm.
  13. I haven't actually noticed any of those opinions, but then again I don't really go looking for them, either. When it comes to the training in our dojo great emphasis is placed on the fundamentals of the technique, proper application of the technique, and the proper use of power. I am also affiliated with the JKA, where do you train?
  14. Congrats.
  15. As I recall, in the special features of the film, the form he is doing is actually the demo he did during his audition for the role.
  16. We do a mix, actually. Both from fighting position and from the hip.

That's interesting, do Tai Chi practitioners have to use kime or are they into just relaxed movements?

That is fascinating information. Thank you.
  19. Something else to consider is that movies are just fiction. Just entertaining. When watching them you've got to keep that in mind.

I've done Jitte but haven't spent a lot on it. I plan to of course, and I have seen it done a great deal.
  21. We do this very similarly, the focusing allows us to get into the kata and learn all of it's subtle techniques as well as the overt ones. We will also perform the Kata in reverse, and sometimes mirror the kata. For example with one kata starting a technique to the right, we'd start it to the left and go from there.

I'm not familiar with that type of condition. Does physio or certain types of exercising help?
  23. I'm not finding much information on this either. Best way to find out, of course, is to chat with the instructor.
  24. Glad to see it worked. What stances were you using at the time?
  25. For me the biggest improvements were in basketball, and squash/tennis.
