I do the movement in that timeframe as well. The bunkai I've always liked to do in this kata. There are a few applications there that are very interesting. You can have a lot of fun with it.
  2. That is a very good story and will definitely help anyone training in martial arts. Thanks for sharing

Those last few moves took me a little while to get the hang of. I was always doing it way too fast.
  4. I think it was.
  5. Salt in of itself is not bad. Just like when you start taking in too much is when it becomes bad. The upper level intake of salt is 5.8 grams for an adult. So don't go over that amount.
  6. So all three have to stay within the boundaries of the "triangle" setup? Or is it that the other two are on the outside?
  7. If the dojo is affiliated with Shotokan as well you can go through your organization via your sensei. They will contact the sensei there and provide a reference for you.
  8. You could also just play around a bit and try making up some of your own.
  9. It is scary to think that as well it might have been appearances. You mentioned it was most likely a homeless man. I bet if it was a well (or better) dressed man things would have gone very different earlier.
  10. Have a link to that online?
  11. All I know is that it was started in the late sixties/early seventies. : /
  12. When I started training in Martial arts I was 342 lbs (I am 5'10"). I am much lighter now and not having any real difficult either. Just make sure you do not lost the weight too quickly and that you change up to a more healthy diet (if not already). You'll be doing more so increasing your protein intake would probably help out. Have fun!

    Memory

You will not find it difficult to remember all of the movements. Once you've performed each kata at least 15 times, and performed the bunkai a few times you'll have it down.
  14. Are you saying that you need someone to give you techniques on attacking with the knife, or defending against knife attacks?
  15. That's a pretty accurate description. I've gotten to that through physical training, and once or twice through meditation. It's very scary the first time you do it...for me it was quite brief. Meditating is usually unique to the individual but there are common techniques like quiet calm areas where you sit in a certain position (e.g. legs crossed over your hips) with a specific posture, etc.
  16. Those are two good styles to learn together.
  17. I picked up the latest rules and regulations at our most recent tournament. If you aren't sure where to pick it up your sensei or regional director will have that information for you.
  18. I saw an interview of Jet Li after he did a movie with DMX where he indicated all the other fighters in the film could beat him up. He indicated he felt he was a good Hollywood martial artist, and not a particularly good fighter.

    Jion

Have you done the bunkai yet? I find a kata sticks with me much better after I do it a few times.
  20. Thank you for the information, she referred to it as a Karate style.
  21. Yeah I'm staring to think she was joking. : /
  22. There aren't any ISKF dojos there, I'm afraid. That doesn't necessarily mean you're out of luck though. I found a few listings under search term of "Singapore Shotokan".
  23. This is most likely spelled wrong, but I was speaking with someone on the phone the other day, who mentioned she was a shodan in Toshinden. I am certain I am not finding the right information as I all I find in searches online are games. Anyone hear of Toshinden?
  24. Something else to consider is that perhaps the child does not understand and is merely looking for attention. It may be a compliment that they are trying to speak with you and to get to know you. That young person may not be old enough to understand yet.

    Jion

I enjoy Jion. It is a very strong kata and it has a lot of different applications.
