  1. We have four classes per week, two are mandatory to attend.
  2. In my town we have Rikidokan Judo but I'm afraid I know very little about it.
  3. I found this place online: http://www.austinmartialarts.com/contact_us.php
  4. I will be filming as much as I can so I'll put something up yes. To go you need to be a member of the JKA-WF/ISKF and be at least 3rd kyu or higher. You can register to compete/volunteer through your sensei.
  5. This is being held in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan this year, over thanksgiving. Any one else going to be going to watch, volunteer, or participate?
  6. That's definitely a good one, I remember seeing that a long time ago...was that on a funniest home videos show?
  7. Hello all, Lately I've noticed some tightening in my hip muscles. Know of any good hip muscle stretching? Thanks in advance.
  8. Hm, you know that is a good idea gheinisch. Ask them for some guidance on a technique, etc. might be a good ice breaker. You can segue into these hurt feelings after relaxing a bit on a few other topics.
  9. What did he say, and where those people still there?
  10. I really do support the conversation...what angers me is that 4th and 5th dans are behaving this way. They should have more maturity and professionalism than that. First, you aren't "calling them out" you are merely having a polite adult conversation to clear the air. In fact, even start with that: "I'd like to clear the air..." Something else to consider is that if they are speaking like this during classes it's likely your sensei already knows about it. It could be possible he's waiting to see what happens.
  11. Yeah I have to admit I'm a pretty big Transformers fan.
  12. This is all good advice and I think you should consider it; If I may I'll play devil's advocate for a moment. You may want to take a few minutes and review your own behaviour and interactions with your fellow students. I know I can come off as arrogant occasionally but I don't notice it until someone speaks to me about it. It's just the way I am, and it may be the way you are as well. So, that leads me back to the previous advice you've been given thus far and I agree that it's a good idea to chat with your fellow students. When you clear the air you should feel much more comfortable about it. Now, if it just turns out to be normal jealousy, simply ask them to be mature adults and keep their comments to themselves. If they can't handle that then they can speak with the sensei.
  13. Like many others I have just the one patch. In our org they don't require one, they prefer the patchless look.
  14. Oh wow now that is an excellent idea, especially if there are kids in the dojo.
  15. Hey that's not bad. I'm in the same boat, it was my first intro to MA as well.
  16. That is not my experience...I find people tend to go with what's popular, and those who do something unexpected get that extra attention from the judges, and turn out with better scores.
  17. Hm, in the sense that placebos can make you feel better then I suppose it could.
  18. I have not done it myself but I do recall one of the tenets was not to fire the arrow, instead to let it fire itself.
  19. I've seen fights in Aikido and they haven't been as light as you've probably been thinking. They can be as brutal as any other fight. The difference is in the philosophies. Aikido is also an internal art (focusing on the mind as well). I honestly don't know much about Hankido aside from knowing it's a Korean art which is often confused with dance.
  20. I understand mushin to be "no mind". But as I've said, mushin is simply my experience. It is possible you can get this through several different methods, but one thing I refuse to accept is that the way to such physical ability is through anger.
  21. Welcome to the forum Shui Tora. You should post your question regarding Ushiro Maswashi Geri in the Karate forum, you'll get a lot of people helping you out there.
  22. We went to a school once during lunch hour, and during their regular gym periods. We had a demo...then we were flooded with kids.
  23. The power of the mind can be quite intriguing. I don't necessarily feel you were focusing your ki in the way your think, though. When angry everything about us becomes constricted. Our blood vessels constrict increasing blood pressure, norepinephrin and adrenaline are common responses to highly agistated psychological states. It's very possible you experienced a lot of anger, perhaps rage, I don't know of course. But what I do know is that your real power is going to come while experiencing mushin, thus is my experience.
