Need help finding a thread
SBN Doug replied to SBN Doug's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
As I've stated before, most arts don't use them exclusively. They are "usually" used to aid in making a slight adjustment to the angle of a joint, as to have proper locking/breaking position, or to help loosen a hold in order to escape, as JohnnyS suggested. This thread was not meant to argue their effectiveness, only so I could find the name of the JJ art they were employed in. I know very few that use them exclusively. Thank you again TJS. This thread is closed. -

Nor do we. They are only a tool to aid in loosening a grip, aiding in joint angle set up, etc. I have had them performed correctly on me, and they can cause an entire limb to go limp. -

Need help finding a thread

It's possible, but mine is a Korean art. So, anything Japanese sounds alike to me. -
O.k. guys, I need your help. I'm not sure if the thread was in this forum, comparative, or combative. However, it was concerning JJ, so I'll ask for help here. I was reading it about a week ago, and forgot the style of JJ it referenced, and I had wanted to look up more info on it. The post in question was one of our members talking about how he takes BJJ, and either his father of grandfather has taken a TJJ for years. This style of TJJ takes a looong time to become proficient, and everytime the BJJer tried to put his family member is a hold, the elder would activate a couple pressure points to loosen the hold. One of my favorite parts of my art is the use of pressure points as an addition to my other techniques, and I wanted to read up more on the form of JJ. Spark anyone's memory?

Utilizing Tae Kwon Do for combat
SBN Doug replied to aznkarateboi's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Is the "ground fighting" you learn of the calibur of JJ (wrestling, guard position, etc.)? Or is it more like what we learn, applying the standing locking and breaking techniques to kneeling and lying situations? -
Utilizing Tae Kwon Do for combat
SBN Doug replied to aznkarateboi's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Most of the bashing, but not all, comes from people that have never practiced traditional style TKD. I'm moving this post to where those that practice it can answer the question. -
Tae Kwon Do improvments in Combat
SBN Doug replied to CrazyAZNRocker's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I'll leave it here for now. However, it is because of the "bashing" TKD sometimes gets in this forum that those that practise TKD don't come in here often. And they're the ones you'll get the mst accurate answers from. -
I stopped collecting a year or so after that. While he almost had it forceably put back on once, I'd have to check the boxes downstairs to remember who, he hadn't gotten it back by the time I stopped.

Sorry, I was tied up yesturday. http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=1144&highlight=archery We have archery (Korean style) as part of our art. Kyudo and Zen archery are a couple of stand alone srchery arts. One from Japan, and one from China. However, many arts incorporate these into their style as well.

Do blackbelts have a responsibility to....
SBN Doug replied to karatefox's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Depends on what you consider "help". I think everyone, not just BBs, have a moral responsibility to help where we can. In TJSs example, call the police, etc. Do you mean get physically involved? Then I say no. In a lot of arts, BB is only a full understanding of the basics. They might not even be qualified to handle some one-on-ones. -
Better late than never. Welcome.

Gory, and very intricate plot lines. Sometimes you need a road map to keep up with them all.

There's never a perfect place to start. It's almost like trying to pick a point to start watching a soap. Lots of times they make sure to give little paragraphs that summarize past conflicts. You can always go back and pick those issues up someplace if they sound intersting. For instance, I have the entire crossover collection of Age of Appocolipse in a box downstairs. Just because I happened to be reading them at the time. I decided to keep them in case they were worth something some day.

As has been said, you'll find the majority of what you need in physics. If you want to get demonstrative, you can show how locking the different joints in the arm transform it through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree levers. Then depict how after locking the arm, their body is on circumference of a circle where you are the ceter point. As you turn an inch, they will be forced to turn a foot, etc.

Onsalaught! There you go. I remember when he was taking Reed's kid out of 4 freedom tower. The combined power of the Fan4, Avengers, and I don't remember who else barely took him down to one knee. Wooooo, bad man is right. Hey, at least now I can defend my geekdom.

Removed from his body, and then removed from the area. I think I read that as the only way to do it somewhere. Wait, now I remember! It was in the files Xavier kept on everyone's, including his own team's and his very own, weaknesses. Back from when his inner consciousness took on a life of its own, with the aid of some Magneto left in him from when X turn out Mag's lights for ripping the adamantium off Wolvie. Few.
