  1. For me, it would be which one can I learn to control the attacker/ situation with the minimal amount of force exerted on that person. i.e., I don't want to pound the guy into unconsciousness unless there is absolutely no other way. Had I not wound up in KSW, I probably would have felt most comfortable in either Hapkido or Aikido.
  2. If you're talking about the one from years ago, they play it on either Fox Family Channel. Along with the old Fox Spider Man toons too. King, what do you expect from a Saturday morning cartoon?????????????
  3. Sorry, it was in Comparative. I responded to you question with the link over in the Korean forum.
  4. Here's the link to another topic on it. http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=4874&highlight=hwa The HWD side is at:http://www.hwarangdo.com/judical.htm Scroll down, but don't let either story taint your views. Every MA has it breaks with members (even KSW ). The key is whether or not it teaches what you want to learn.
  5. I can't speak from experience, only from what I've read and heard. There is a thread in the Korean arts section where I posted a link to both the HWD organization, and an "outcast" member. Since you can post most anything on the web, you should take his allegations as only that, allegations. The organization has their reasoning for his expultion posted as well. I say this only because you may run accross this information while researching it, and I don't want you formulating an opinion based only on his side of the story. That aside, it would seem to be EXTREMELY close to Kuk Sool Won. Some have said that most of the techniques are exactly the same. I have seen pictures of their Grandmaster and mine, from back some time ago. I believe there may have been some attempted association originally, that may not have worked out. If it has similar techniques, the striking, the weapons, etc. to KSW, then I would say watch a class, see how it goes, and do the same as any other MA, watch out for long term contracts. I've never been concerned with short term ones. Oh yeah, and let me know what you see.
  6. Hi yojimbo, I'm not going to say you won't benefit from three months of Kuk Sool Won. However, you won't progress much within the art. You will get a feeling for what the art involves, and Hapkido, Tang Soo Do, and Hwa Rang Do are are similar and possibly at you disposal while at school (if you like it). You will have something to compare to when deciding what other art to take at school, or perhaps decide you liked it some much you will drive a little ways to get to one. (Be advised that the schools listed on the KSW webpage is NOT a complete list. Small clubs are all around, especially at colleges, that are not listed. You may have to call headquarters to see if there is one close.) At the very least, you will be able to get some cardio work in, stretch out, and build up the necessary muscles for other arts.
  7. Which, in my opinion, is all that ever counts. If you're looking for the best "all fighting system", then you need to find that. If you're more interested in tradition, and some of the "inner" health advantages, then find the art for that. It ultimately comes down to: "Is this the right art/school for you?" Just because one art, or school within an art, is better than another for one person, does not necessarilly mean everybody in the world should go sign up for it. Find a good quality instructor/school that gives you what you're looking for, as an individual.
  8. Welcome.
  9. I second that. We gotta stop talking about it though. I'm getting an urge to put on some hole ridden jeans and go down to the comic store to get caught up on where the storyline is.
  10. As long as they don't get into too many contract problems, they've got pleanty of material for sequals.
  11. True, Nightcrawler didn't have tatoos. But how did he get that German accent from a church in Boston, instead of the European monestary? Iceman should be older, but I didn't remeber the same as Jean and Scott. Which Beast would you like, pre or post furry transformation? Which Angel, original or post Apocolipse Arcangel? Magneto would be better not as old, but he had to be old enough to loose his parents to the WWII camps. Mystique should have cloths, but I'm not complaining. Storm did fly a little in the first one, she just cant lift others with control. I already covered Rouge. What abouts? What about Remy (Gambit), although I did see his name, Juggernaught, Appocolipse, Havoc, Multiple Man, Blob (o.k. we can do without Blob), The White Queen and the rest of the Hellfire Club, etc., etc., etc. Bring it on baby! p.s. Since you haven't seen it, I'll only say one thing. Look closely at the lake at the very end, and tell the critics to get a real job because I loved it.
  12. True, But they also have Rouge starting out with the X-men, when she really (if you call comics real ) started out with the "bad" guys. More like the recent cartoon of them as teens. That is where she held on toooooo long to Ms. Marvel and permanently absorbed her near invulnerability, super strength, and ability to fly. So, the movie isn't completely in line with the comic. There, now out geek that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  13. Well, being a chemist, you'll have to give me some supporting facts that back up your theory. If you just pulled the idea out of the air, then it's not really a "theory". Therefore, what do you base your theory on?
  14. Congratulations kchenault! Thanks to ALL the contestants, and a hearty "well done" to you all.
  15. Close enough (adamantium). Theoretically indistructable. He also has his mutant ability to heal almost instantaneously. Even if Spidey used something other than web, Wolvie would heal and be back in it. But that super strength is a tough one to counter.
  16. I actually would like to question your (all of you) opinion regarding what you define as MMA. Personally, I think of MMA as a general term. If it is "Mixed Martial Arts", then doesn't that simply mean someone took a bunch of MAs, fixed them together (weeding out what someone feels is unrealistic), and practice it (adapting changes as they see fit)? If so, what would you clasify my art (Kuk Sool Won)? The Grandmaster went around and learned a number of different Korean MAs in his youth. Which all had various influences from accross their borders over the centuries. He then took what he felt were the most "practical" parts of those arts, and structured them into a new martial art (from "mixing a bunch of others). Granted, he kept a limited number of forms, and some ki development. However, he continues to "tweek" the joint techniques, pressure point attacks, etc. to be more efficient. Changes to compensate for new situations, etc. Does KSW meet your classification of a Mixed Martial Art? If not, what is your interpretation of MMA?
  17. Didn't they get into it in one of those crossover titles years ago? If Logan can figure a way to negate Spidey's ability to go high, I'd have to go with Wolverine.
  18. Yeah, I never got much into that one either. I prefer Inuyasha, Yu Yu Hakusho, etc. Futurama and Family Guy make my sides hurt too much.
  19. I think the original post was more about the BB quitters that quit MAs all together. Feeling they would rather spend their time doing other things, or that they are getting too old to train. I also don't see as big an issue with someone leaving after BB, IF they feel they could benefit more from training in a suplemetary art.
  20. Where's the "shakes head in disbelief" smiley?
  21. And it is our honor to have you. Welcome.
  22. There we go! Now that's a masculine fan!
  23. That's pretty much what I meant by "You can practice the motion" alone. My art is closer to Hapkido, but a lot of the training is the same.
  24. True, but there's no way to learn it on your own. And there's now way to practice using the attackers ki against them if they are not there. You can practice the motion (after you've been taught by a qualified instructor), but you can't develop the "higher" level understanding of the technique without a partner. IMHO
  25. Hi, and welcome.
