  1. When I first started, I hated it. I preferred working on techniques. After getting used to it, and building up my cardio so I wasn't dying , I enjoy that aspect of my training.
  2. You've quoted me a little out of context there. I said the bashing comes when you ask questions like "Can Judo beat Boxing", which is what this thread originally asked. This thread was re-opened, and modified from it's original state, in hopes of promoting the "constructive comparison of methods" you are referring to. Hopefully, it will stay on a constructive track.
  3. Welcome.
  4. Welcome.
  5. Welcome to the forums.
  6. Welcome.
  7. Actually, this is why it might get closed. http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?p=91453#91453 The style bashing just inevitably comes, sooner or later, whenever you ask this kind of hypothetical question. Feel free to discuss actual encounters, with participant's names and the date of the encounter (preferably with references to articles, etc.). However, when it comes to vs. threads the answer is always going to be:
  8. Welcome.
  9. Alright, now you're turning this into a vs. thread. You all can either get back on topic, or have the topic closed. Your choice.
  10. one day i am going to sparr against a ground grappler dosent matter what style it is, just so i can experience fighting against a ground grappler. wether i loose or not doesnt matter to me, i just know i wouldnt go down easy. i wish there was a BJJ or judo, any grappling style, so i could go there and challange someone from there school and see how i do against them. Did that a couple times. I was very pleased that I could hold my own. They were surprised when I was able to switch from striking to grappling, then back again. The element of surprise is never a bad thing.
  11. Ooooo, another Texan. Cool. Wish I could move back. During the Winter, anyway. Welcome to the forums.
  12. Welcome. Both KSW and Hapkido will use the same kicking you learned in TKD, while adding additional "diversity".
  13. Yeah, what he said. I think.
  14. There were a couple K-1 fights on ESPN tonight. At least they called them K-1.
  15. Quietly inform the head instructor of the parent's concerns. He stands to loose students if the parents don't take to someone yelling at their kids like that.
  16. I'll actually modify that slightly. Further postings WILL reflect a sense of mutual respect for all persons AND arts, or this thread will be closed.
  17. Wood and rattan are also flexible, where metal is not. A heavy strike down is blocked with much less of a jolt to the shoulders when the bo is able to bend slightly.
  18. Yes, welcome to you indeed.
  19. Yeah, well it's also without the 300 lb, 6' 10 walking wrecking balls too. You guys always seem to refer to the pads as though they are protection. If you'll notice, they are being used more as a weapon. But we digress from the topic.
  20. It was closed because members started insulting each other and other styles. As long as this one doesn't, it will stay open.
  21. Very original introduction. Welcome.
  22. Some of the messages I've split off will cause this thread to be closed if they happen again.
  23. That's sometimes a matter of opinion. And, unfortunately, it's not mine. IMHO, as I was told by my master, you should start with a lighter staff, to build your technique and speed. Once you've got that down, then go to a heavier staff. Besides, you spin a staff a few hundred times in each position, every day, and you'll have rock hard forearms anyway. As for the length, about your own height. Type of material, I prefer rattan, but you should come to your own conclusion there. Where to buy, wherever you get a good deal. You'll own a few, as already stated, if you stick with it.
  24. Welcome to the forums.
