Grappling arts vs Striking Arts

TJS Sorry if it came across that way. That was not a point I was trying to make. -
Grappling arts vs Striking Arts
SBN Doug replied to lilolpete's topic in Pro Fighting Matches and Leagues
Warp, this is not meant as an attack, just seeking clarification on your terminology knowledge. When TJS is talking about the "mount" position, are you familiar with "exactly" what position that is? The part about the reach is correct, but I haven't met the experienced grappler yet that would give up a chest to chest mount in order to sit up and punch. All the one's I've trained with that did were easily thrown off to the side, because of the rise in their center of gravity. The ones that were able to get me in a mount, and stayed low, were able to beat me to position most of the time. -

I would have to agree IF he's picturing the same senario in his mind as he's envisioning the head grab/slam. I just can't be sure, until he tells us, that he didn't mean when you're side by side, kneeling, leaning over to grab from standing, etc. -
Grappling arts vs Striking Arts

Did you mean to say "can", or "can't" reach the back of their head when they are sitting up? ------- I must not have seen the reference to the mount being reversed. All I saw was this: "You don't have to be on top to push a person's head into the pavement. In fact, it's probrably easier to do if the other person is not lying on their back." I didn't draw from this statement that he meant the headslamee was in the mount possition on the headslammer. Just that the slamee was not on their back. However, it will take WS to clarify to us what was meant. -
Grappling arts vs Striking Arts

Personally, I prefer a good balance of both, over concentrating on one or the other. However, the discussion shouldn't end just because a striker doesn't know grappling terminology. As far as the current position in question, I haven't seen a detailed description of the scenario. So, it's possible you're both thinking of different positioning of the combatants. -
Why do forms/katas begin with left movements?
SBN Doug replied to TKDLadyInSC's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
We are taught to practice the mirror of all our forms, once we have the "beginning" side down. Balance. -
Judo vs Aikido
SBN Doug replied to YoungGrasshopper's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
I didn't see this topic soon enough, apparently. I've done a lot of trimming, because only part of the original question is allowed. I'm going to close it anyway, since we already have a thread comparing and contrasting these two along with JJ. http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=9618 -

All three are good choices to start. If you find you like what you chose, all three can be continued for a long time. If you don't, all three have a strong foundation to build on. One comment, some people have a problem getting in close. If you feel uncomfortable being hip to hip with your attacker, then Hapkido might not be for you. Personally, I would choose Hapkido, as it's very similar to my art and I wouldn't change mine for anything. However, you have to decide for yourself.

I actually drive an hour, to just past Danbury, to train at a Kuk Sool Won dojang. Received my 1st dan in it before moving up here, and loved it so much I didn't want to switch. Welcome again to the forums. -
Introduction to Kuk Sool Won

Glad to hear that you like it. You might ask your instructor, or headquarters, if there are any clubs practicing near where the "other" job is located. Clubs are not always listed somewhere that can be easily found, but they still have to register with headquarters. -
Everyone try to keep in mind we conversing in a medium that is very conducive to misinterpretation of a person's statement. Take everything with a grain of salt, and try not to take things personally. This is a good topic so far, so please keep it going in a positive direction. Thanks.

Duhhhh! Until you said that, I completely forgot being told that, long ago. Thank you for reminding me.

Bad anime endings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SBN Doug replied to King of Fighters's topic in General Chat
You'd probably hate FLCL then. I may get blasted for this, esspecially considering my age, but I like the way Tenchi Universe ended. I got really (bad word for mad) when I thought Ryoko got killed, but the last episode and how they ended it was pretty warm. Kind of a happily (as much as that bunch could be) ever after kind of ending.
