  1. Welcome.
  2. Welcome.
  3. Welcome to KF.
  4. I wouldn't be so sure. Some of you are getting really close to breaking these again. http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=9511#116329
  5. I am actually going to close this thread. There is a very long one that's begging to be re-kindled. http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=1363
  6. No, really, it was my pleasure.
  7. Umm, you mean like the one I posted the link to?
  8. http://www.kuksoolwon.com/schools.htm http://www.kuksoolwon.sault.com/family/instructors.html The top is our main site, with all the school listings. The second is one in Ontario. If it's not close enough, give them a call and see if there are any clubs (which won't be listed on the main site) in your area.
  9. It sounds like you agreed to teach, in order to get lessons for free. This is common in a number of schools. However, usually this is done only with 1st dans and above. Never-the-less, it appears as though your instructors end of the deal is not getting honored. You're doing the teaching, but you're not getting your own lessons in. If you're not enjoying it any more only because you don't get your own training in, then I'd have a discussion with your instructor. If you're simply not enjoying being there any longer, then I'd say take a break. Take a look around and see if any others re-kindle your enthusiasm.
  10. Everyone is more than welcome to express their opinions here. However, just be careful to do it in a respectful manner.
  11. Well I figured out why it only works for me. Duh. Here's another that should work. http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?p=60169&highlight=sparring#60169 To put my own twist on it, KSW is very similar to Hapkido. We start off sparring with only strikes. After you've developed enough control (usually not before 1st dan), some schools will allow limited use of techniques in sparring.
  12. Did anyone else have this problem? Because it works fine for me.
  13. Perhaps H@pkid0ist will see this thread. In the event he does not, here's his response on another thread.
  14. We have between 5 and 10 adults, but only 2-3 are at my level. My direct instructor is 3rd, but we learned all the material to 3rd at the same time from a 7th degree master, which is his past instructor. I'm allowed to start testing for 3rd next summer. As far as the "traditional 5 belt system" goes, I thought a true traditional system would only have three. student instructor master At least that's how KSW was in the beginning.
  15. Actually, we have a long thread on this topic already. (If I really tried, I'd probably find half a dozen on this subject already. ) http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=1712&highlight=itf Please continue the discussion there.
  16. Few. Now this is an introduction thread. Welcome.
  17. Out of curiosity, why don't you have it listed as one of you arts?
  18. Haven't been able to make it back since moving up here. Competed in a couple while still living in Clear Lake. The Masters demo is always an inspiring experience. Personally, I enjoyed the sparring competition Master Simms set up when there was still a tourneyment at West Point. Stronger contact allowed, and take downs were allowed (1pt for td and 1pt for finish). Also, it was non-stop sparring for 3 minutes, instead of stopping every point. Non-the-less, the World Championship is always an adventure.
  19. I think I'm up to about 31 when grabbed by the same side hand, and another 10 when grabbed by the opposite hand. They are split up into seperate sets, taught at different stages of our training. Of course, they're mixed in with sets of all the other defensive techniques mentioned earlier.
  20. Mine was a mistake gone right. I was looking for Aikido or Hapkido, anything that was mainly standing, but grappling. Nothing was near by, so I figured I'd go to the little TKD place around the corner (which had a good beginners special) to get stretched out, and pick up my endurance while I continued to look. Come to find out, it wasn't TKD, it was Kuk Sool Won. And, for any that don't know from the article yet, is extremely similar to Hapkido. Stayed with it ever since.
  21. I'll get you for that one. I loved The A Team. Unfortunately, I started to question its worth when they started building cabbage cannons. It picked back up after their faked execusions, when they started working covertly for the government.
  22. Welcome.
  23. Sorry to hear some of that. Still, welcome to KF.
