  1. Nah. It's more of a super-tuned skill. It might be an expressive art if you could shoot a smiley face on your target, but that's still pure skill.
  2. I hear ya, dreamer. A heating pad would be good right now. I'm starting another year on the injured reserve list. Hope I make it another year. Oh yeah, happy belated birthday.
  3. Reminds me of that exercise that US speedskater Apollo Ono does...jumping up some stairs on the side of a hill, on one leg, sideways.
  4. Ughh. Made up for my lackluster Wednesday birthday by having a bit too much on Friday. Spilled my drink all over the bar trying to look at a girl that my friend pointed out. I'm gettin too old for this shtuff.
  5. I can't stand it any longer. My LCL is flairing up again and is burning and twitching as I write this. I think kicking air is a contributing factor to an old football injury. No, exercises don't help much and I'm not fond of scalpels. It only feels good after a few glasses of cheap scotch. I am going to a knee specialist in a few days for evaluation and ask for a brace. Does anyone use them during MA practice? Is there a perferred type that you know of or any kinds that I should stay away from?
  6. I hope in your sentence you meant to say "wouldn't feel safe walking in the ghetto". Police don't feel safe in ghettos at night. Neither should you.
  7. Oh man. I don't know what happened to me last night. Some friends took me to the pub and I didn't feel like getting polluted. Some girls kept trying to get me to drink some shots to celebrate my birthday, and I refused. At least I don't have a hangover.
  8. Hey, Sam Adams is pretty darn good for a US brewery. Word of advice for Labatts drinkers who visit the southern US. Make very clear that you want Labatts-imported from Canada, if they have it. Normally they think you ordered Bass Ale (which is fine but is way expensive). Most places down there only have swamp water Bud products anyway.
  9. The best cold remedy: tea with whiskey, honey, and lemon. If nothing else you will sleep. If that doesn't work: straight whiskey. You won't even know the snot is running out of your nose after a couple good ones, so pack some tissue in the nostrels. You might feel like giving the finger to others who laugh at you, but that will only make them prolong the humiliation. Remove tissue before falling asleep.
  10. Hockey is one of the few sports where you wage war against another during the playoffs and end up shaking hands in the end to show respect towards your opponent, no matter if it was the same guy you exchanged fists with. Ya gotta love it.
  11. After 32 years I still haven't figured out why people make such a big deal of birthdays. Is it because a person has survived another year or is it a feeble excuse to make them the centerpiece of attention for a day? Both? Really, I am at a loss right now. Would I be impolite to refuse any kind of celebration with friends? They probably think I'm rude or going through some sort of depression, but I just think of it as another day. Must be getting old.... Speaking of old, kicking air isn't helping my worn out knee a damn bit. Feels like mush and I have a color change belt test next week.
  12. Never said there was anything wrong with Molson. I love having a cold Canadian after work, especially if she is wearing tight jeans and shirt.
  13. What was your schedule for training? All day long for the whole week? Did your lesson plan concentrate on techniques you thought would benefit them or was there a predetermined planned developed by the SAS? I have thought about possible oppurtunities similar to what you have completed, only with US branches of military. But that's only if I make it past black belt. KSN Doug: Have you ever explored this possibility in your area? Any luck with starting a KSW club yet?
  14. Part of the problems that kids have today stem from their parents. A lot of parents are morons. I consider it job security though.
  15. That just proves the team with the overall better record doesn't have any advantage in the Olympic format. Nonetheless, Canada came out to play and contained the US forwards at center ice every time. Cheers to Canada. But the games are over and it's time to put the Molson away and get back to work!
  16. Yup, although I don't consider what they do a sport, they show a lot of dedication and hard work. Sarah won fair and square. Didn't miss any of the seven jumps. And I think Russia is mad again. Go figure.
  17. Congrats to the women's hockey team. We do see the hockey games live. They are on the NBC affiliate stations mostly. But a lot of events are tape delayed. It sucks, but NBC would rather play them during primetime at night so their ratings stay high. The working world wouldn't be able to see the daytime events without setting their VCR anyway. Yeah, the Korean skater probably should have rec'd the gold. Maybe they should let him and the US skater fight for it while on skates, just like hockey.
  18. The big matchups are now upon us. Canada vs USA in womens hockey, and most likely the same in mens hockey unless Russia beats USA on Friday. Place your bets. Yzerman. He comes off of knee surgery a few weeks ago and has a big game last night.
  19. Very well put, SpinningGumby. I don't practice my traditional system of martial arts, Kuk Sool Won, purely for the fighting aspect, although it's my first line of defense in a situation where I think I have the advantage. In certain situations, it's best to just run your arse off. But then there may be a time where I may have to rely on the .40 cal hollowpoints in my compact semi-autoloader. So, even though I practice a traditional MA, I don't want to rely on it entirely. Instead, I practice for the whole aspect of mental and physical well being. Of course there will be some people reading this that think that I probably need more mental help for wanting to own a handgun, but they may think twice when they are saved by one. When SpinningGumby said that there are many sides and reasons as to why people do what they do is truly correct.
  20. Fantastic! I continue to infuriate my neighbors to the north by speaking the truth. But seriously, what great national pride you have. That's what makes the Olympic games so great. I can't wish ill feelings towards the Canadian team or any others since there are Red Wings playing (most of whom I've met and have autographs). And I expect the US team to get, at best, the bronze. Then silver to Canada, and gold for Russia. Canada plays Sweden tonight. Good luck. You'll need it.
  21. Old and slow? Perhaps, but not that much different than Canada's defense. Goaltending will be a problem for US. Russia will be the one to watch. In fact, I don't see anyone coming close to them. Just look at their lineup. And they know how to play the larger ice better than N. Americans. How long has it been since Canada won the gold in hockey? Uhh, half a century? They better do it now before people like Yzerman, Shanahan, Sakic retire.
  22. Hmmm. Perhaps a friendly little wager if the US teams play your teams in the finals, eh?
  23. Yup, Canada got the shaft in skating. But they might make it up in Hockey. Their team is pretty stacked. I think it's going to be Russia and Canada in the finals, although I haven't seen the brackets yet. I can't wait! Theo is a little crybaby who isn't going to earn back any respect by complaining to the NHL commisioner about what Chelios said to him on the ice.
  24. ZR440 is the model snowmobile made by Arctic Cat. It's an out-of-the-factory 95 horsepower race sled that tends to make Polaris owners give the middle finger.
  25. Bliss is right. That normally works well, unless you are one of the chairmen from Enron. [ This Message was edited by: zr440 on 2002-02-13 09:21 ]
