Sorry, fellow Sharks, for the lack of posts. Had to drive to a concert last night in Detroit. My brain is still numb. Dream Theater rocks!!!!!

Angus: go see a chiropractor that studied Kenesiology. I had lower back stiffness/spasms for way too long and it was the result of vertabrae mis-alignment. Not anymore. The cost and time invested in correcting the problem is well worth it.

Point Sparring Tips?
ZR440 replied to Kai_Jecht's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Understood. I am all for rules to prevent injuries. I just am not a big fan of sparring in general. It doesn't prove much to me. I'd rather watch a pro boxing match. Now give me a demonstration of defensive techiniques against punches and kicks, all for points, and I'll pay money to see it. Most tounaments around here don't offer that, but next month at the Michigan KSW Master's Expo I'll get a chance to see it. I wanted to participate, but my knee doesn't. -
I think it's Kuntaw. It's a Philipino martial art that's offered at a college near me. I guess I'll look at the course description and provide details later.

It seems like it would be a whole lot more difficult to customize a system for individuals than to teach a traditional system that has predetermined requirements. It's not fair for everyone, but it keeps continuity within the schools.

You might consider Kuk Sool Won. It's a Korean MA system that incorporates many different joint manipulation techniques and striking, sometimes as a combination. I'm not sure how much ground techniques are used because I've only practiced for a few years. You'd have to ask KSN Doug. The KSW website could also tell you more.

Point Sparring Tips?

That's why I can't stand sparring. You can't push, but if you make it look like a punch then it's ok. Ugh. You can kick someone in the crotch in some TKD tournaments, correct? We don't train for sparring in KSW very much and I'm glad. If someone kicked me in the package, my retaliation would be to break their kneecap. Of course, that's after do an equipment check. I guess a sport is all it is. -
Anyone ever practice Kuntaw? I'd like to know more about their system.

Yes I do. Since last October in fact. Like yourself, I have a leg that is a tad longer than the other. Not to mention my lower back is curved a little more than optimum and a few disks are slightly twisted. Neck area is a bit too straight. My chiropractor cracks my lower, mid, and neck. Yes, it is normal for it to want to return to it's original position. Regular visits will train it, in effect, to correct alignment. It's the anti-sublexation treatment. I highly recommend a good Kenesiologist to anyone. I'll be a knee consultant here after this month. Had MRI on knee today and will know results next week.

I'm game. I've been kicked out of worse places than this.

Shouldn't use the brace for more than 9 months? Damn, my health insurance company won't like that. I already have one picked out, if the doctor approves, and that will be a little over 500 dollars. That sucker better be good for at least a few years.

More pasta, beans, fish, and nuts = carbs, protein, fiber, fats = good gas. Boom!

There was a news show that detailed how their budget to improve their system was increased and still they haven't accomplished anything. What is really smelly about the whole deal is how one of the big chiefs, maybe it was the former director, was found negligent of his duties a while ago and was just transferred to, of all things, the counter-terrorism branch of the INS. If it was anyone of us, we would be unempoyed. Rumors in DC are that they might disband this worthless agency.

Your Most Confident Technique
ZR440 replied to Singularity's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Us Americans (USA, specifically) like our guns because it provides both security and outdoor recreation. It's only a small percentage of people that end up giving law abiding and safety concious citizens a bad rap. We still engage in good old fashion fist fights. Normally after midnight on the weekends. I'm surprised no one has mentioned techniques that don't involve kicks or punches. I am starting to enjoy the joint lock defence techniques that Kuk Sool Won has to offer. It has great bone breaking moves. -
What about a cane? It would be legal to carry in the streets and wouldn't be as obvious to an attacker.

Kicker, that's the outside box you are talking about. That just routes the signal to your house. The black box can be a few different things. First, it can be the device that the cable company gives you which has circuitry that allows certain stations to be viewed by the customer. Second, it can be a device sold by an outside party that has been modified or manufactured to allow all the signals (channels) that are routed to your house to be viewed. I don't know if they work as good as the units supplied by the cable company.

My knee specialist told me to put on some 2.5 lb/side ankle weights and sit in a chair and raise lower leg up. Then stand against a table and curl the weights almost up to your butt. 3 sets of 10 to start, then repeat twice a day. It doesn't sound like much, but it has made my knee feel a little stronger. I thought my legs were in good shape before, but the doctor says a lot of people neglect this particular area, thinking it's as strong as upper leg muscles.

I purchased some glucosamine/chondroitin/msm complex about a month ago, but haven't noticed any improvement (which is why I had to seek a knee doctor). However, I have a friend in the physical rehab business that says a lot of elderly people are experiencing improvements after 2 months. I will still continue to take this stuff because I need all the help I can get.
-
Just what I was afraid of. Went to knee specialist, he made it go in directions it shouldn't, and I have to get a MRI scan done next week. This really sucks. (I've been kicked in the gut, punched in the face, sprained my shoulder, but nothing...and I mean nothing...hurt more than when the doctor shifted my kneecap to the side during his tests. I had tears in my eyes and couldn't talk for a while.)

Sai, you are lucky to have experienced warm temps recently. I was stuck indoors the whole weekend because of a blizzard. Don't know how much snow we got because it was blowing sideways the whole time.

I think your question should have been "Where can I obtain a bullet proof vest?".
