I'm not Gojuryu martial artist - but I can tell you what I 'think' I know : 'Go' meaning hard or positive and 'ju' meaning soft of negative, goju ryu is i think meant to be a perfect harmony and balance of both hard and soft. Another characteristic is meant to be ibuki, this I found on a website : Another is Ibuki ('Ikibuki' - YO & IN), the famous breathing techniques which have been developed in a way to place the mind and body in harmony, uniting them for a more efficient person, and stimulating the bodies internal organs bringing you to a total state of awareness. Imagine with every block you inhale and with every strike you exhale. This would be soft to hard. Reverse the order of breathing and call it hard to soft. There are many other principles of application for Ikibuki and most synchronize breathing with body movement. There is much more information @ this link http://gojuryu.net/toc.htm Hope this helps!

Right or Left? Which is your favorite?

I'm right handed but I feel pretty comfortable both ways. I tend more the my right hand forward though - because my favourite counters and attacks start better from that side for me. -
I just did an average, came out to be 56.2...

I dont get it, if he's not doing his own action; what exactly is he getting paid for? I mean - he's not exactly the best of actors! -

You know, I've heard that van damme uses stunt doubles for alot of his action scense; any truth in that? -
Sounds good - thanks Just one question, is it vital that you do this after some proper leg streching? Or can you just do it whenever? While watching t.v for example?

You often hear strategies for one on one street combat, but what about when youre faced with 4 or 5 people trying to beat the living daylights out of you? What would you do then? (apart from run! - because ummm there is a wall behind you, and they are circling around you!)

Thanks Sai - I know what youre talking about now!

Congrats - Dont you run phpBBhacks.com as well Patrick?

Time changes, World changes, 'Chivalry' changes... Being a gentleman doesnt consist of bowing gently in the presence of a lady, or throwing down youre cloak over a puddle of water. You dont go slap someone with youre glove when you want to challange them to a duel anymore... Chivalry changes in accord with the rest of the world, lifestyle's always changing - and it boils down to what you adopt as being 'corteous' e.t.c But how do you decide what stays, and what goes? If you want to be old fashioned, why dont you go slap the guy and then beat the living pulp out of him? [ This Message was edited by: Jiggy9 on 2002-04-03 10:31 ]

lol....maybe Pele was so awe-struck and inspired by the Shumacher brothers that he was in a daze and forgot who he was, let alone why he was standing on a podium infront of thousands of people with formula 1 cars racing by! just maybe... Anyways - I dont think too may brazillians would have minded, considering he is their pride and joy of football.

I do both, point sparring usually when Im in class, and continuous sparring after class with some of the senior students in my dojo or in a kickboxing ring. Personally; I enjoy continuous sparring more though I do disagree with alot of the criticisms made about point sparring. Continuous fighting probably does require more endurance, and allows a much more fluent fight. I agree - because so many times in point fighting a pathetic feather punch manages to brush my chest, just as i see a big opening which would garuntee me 2 or 3 points (depending on the system) and the fight gets stopped because of that 1 point move. Here the opponent gets the point, in continuous sparring, the opponent would pay dearly for that. However I do think that point sparring can help to teach a fighter more - after every succesfull move, he/she gets the oppurtunity to break down what happened mentally and figure out their mistakes or the opponents flaws. Gives you a few moments to perhaps figure out youre next major combo... Alot of the time, in that small break you feel the pain and fatigue much more then you would have done if you kept on fighting - often it takes alot of determination to keep going from there. I think both systems have their advantages, and both enhance the fighter in different ways; if possible - I think you should try to do both.
