Ignorance. -
In shotokan, shorin ryu and shito rye we were taught to pull the foot back in quickly to avoid a chance for it to be caught.

Maybe the temple you are seeing is you "sanctuary". A sanctuary is a safe place created in a meditative state that you go to when you need to de-stress. It is a technique that is sometimes taught as a stress reduction technique and in some pain management programs. Here is a link to a brief description of the term santuary. http://www.learningmeditation.com/sanct.htm http://www.paganspath.com/meta/guidesanctuary.htm

How useful are open hand strikes really?
SaiFightsMS replied to MuayThai Fighter's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Punches to hard areas such as the face with a closed fist very often result in a broken hand. Strikes to the same hard areas with something like a palm heel strike damage the targeted area without near as much damage to the knuckles. In an earlier time that of the bare knuckle fighters, few fightes had more than one or two fights because of the damage. -

The road beyond Black Belt
SaiFightsMS replied to ninjanurse's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Some times blackbelt is the line that differentiates those who wanted to get a black belt from those who are black belts. Often those who just want a black belt to have one quit at shodan. While sometimes those who are truly black belts have that commitment much earlier in their training even if they are not as gifted physically. -

Boxing for self defense
SaiFightsMS replied to Max's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
A lot on your choice of a martial art will depend on your abilities in the beginning. There are some successful martial artists out there who have CP. -
1st Grading in 15 years
SaiFightsMS replied to Looneyas's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Plan on getting a good nights sleep the second night before the test. Often people are too nervous to sleep well the night before. Pack your gym bag the night before too so that nothing gets left behind. -
Help with improving My weak side!!!!!!!!
SaiFightsMS replied to CjBurns's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
There is an interesting "game" to help you learn to use your other side. Start with a free for all - all the students up on the floor at the start the idea his to punch or kick someone and they are out. Last person standing is the winner. To make it interesting limit use to only the left arm and the left leg. It is usually the left side that is everyones weak side. -
He actually began his training while stationed in Okinawa. Got his black belt there. There is a story about one of the first tournaments he entered when he first got back from Okinawa. He went to watch the tournament but someone noticed his gymbag and his hands and talked him into entering. He won thus beginning a long career in martial arts history in this country.
