  1. Maestro not to be intrusive but it might be possible to find something in the martial arts area that your handicapped sister will be able to do.
  2. One of the functions of this forum is to exchange information. That said can you tell us about your style. Maybe something of it's lineage, katas, do you have any special training methods or techniques you think are unique to your style?
  3. Welcome to the forum. Many start the martial arts for the same reason.
  4. Welcome to the forum.
  5. Come on now let's make some effort at intelligent conversation.
  6. Strange analogy but respect through fear is a very apt description.
  7. Many styles of ninjitsu stayed within the extended family group and were not taught to outsiders. I am not sure that it would be truly possible for a westerner such as ourselves to come up with a comprehensive list of ninjitsu styles or schools. And another factor is that many Japanese thougt of those involved with ninjitsu the way many westerners think of snipers - not favorably. Now I don't mean martial arts fanatics I mean the average citizen.
  8. Now this is a constructive way to compare similarities and differences among school. And I must say this is a very interesting thread. Keep them coming.
  9. I think this topic has reached the limit of constructive discussion
  10. Actually I do remember some formal martial arts training I had back in 1975. What a journey I have had.
  11. But you forgot the essence. More essence then take it up a notch - then BAAM.
  12. Yes and think of an oi tsuki or straight punch as a boxing jab.
  13. Ninjitusu also includes strikes, weapons work, stealth, poisons and other aspects that don't fit neatly under a grappling umbrella either. Ninjitsu is in the Japanese/Okinawan forum based on the location of it's origin. It could just as easily be called a weapons art as a grappling are or a striking art. To keep matters simple for KF purpose classifying it with the arts from it's country of origin falls most consistently with how other arts are placed in their forums.

They sound like a really interesting training tool. Do you have any experience working with them?
  16. There are probably other threads about stretching that have been made over the course of KarateForums history. This is just a good place to start. And to add links to stretching sites that answer stretching questions.
  17. Welcome to the forum. Your input will be welcome.
  18. The abilit to do the splits are not an essential part of doing karate. It is just something that many who practice a martial art think is cool to be able to do and they think that if the can do the splits they will be able to execute head high kicks with ease. It is not necessary to be able to do the splits to kick head high.
  19. There are a number of threads in this forum regarding the splits.
  20. There is a large number of threads contained within KarateForums on stretching. Here is a list of some of those threads. Keeping in mind that they are not all inclusive when you have a question regarding stretching this is a good place to start. 21. The first stance, on the left, could also be a high kokutsu dachi. Not all Japanese/Okinawan styles do really deep stances. I think the purpose behind the illustration is to show the body mechanics of breaking utilizing hips and shoulders not just arm power not to illustrate proper stances.
  22. Oh Kirves where do you think ninjitus comes from if not Japan?
  23. A major attempt is made here to catch profanity and inappropriate pictures and to remove them as soon as possible.
  24. In your Wado style do you do three separate nahahinch katas or are they combined into one like the Isshinryu naihanchi?
