Kicker I meant like pc games. I found my fav looking through a bin while I was at the computer store waiting for my cd-rw to be installed.

I used to listen to international short wave broadcasts. In the late 70's it was very intertaining to listen to radio Moscow and radio Peking. Of course the fall of the communist block changed all that.

One of my oldest favorite thing to do is to read. I read in just about every area. Well, the only kind of book I don't read is romance. Yuck. I would be totally lost if I didn't have a way to read. My newest favorite thing to do is the internet. I really love my computer.

Nice to meet you dreamer  In order to keep from forgetting my forms I do regular visualization of all of them. And early on I started writing them down. I have developed a notation system that allows me to go back to a kata 5 years after I have learned it and be able to pick it right back up.

As mentioned in the Nunchaku thread kobudo web sites are hard to find. Are there any good web sites pertaining to weapons anyone would be willing to share?

As I approach Kanku Dai I once again face the jump. Due to the ms I no longer possess the ability to jump. In Heian Godan I am in the air about an inch before I land in the final Kosa dachi. In Rohai I have a problem with the 360 spin in the crescent kick. I solved this problem with an extra step. Any input on how I might adapt some of the upcoming katas to my abilities?

The history of the martial arts are full of splits and differences of opinions. Many splits occured because of ego many to improve the art. Some for reasons we would never be able to understand. Wouldn't it be great if a spirit of unification prevailed more in the martial arts.

Bagpuss I am sure other schools use a similar pattern of earning patches. I am, however, still impressed by the dignity displayed in older pictures of the founders of many of the karate styles with their students in plain white gi's. I included some of my patches in my wall display with my belt rack and certificates.

I have seen the film clip most of you refer to. Was there not also a 3 inch punch that Bruce Lee did? It looks like his whole body was behind the punch.

:eek:Another interesting thread. Much of the time in my early years in class I was paired to spar with people taller than I am. It does make you think. Much good advice has been given here. From early on in my school we work on a technique designed to take out an opponents knee. I agree with most of you knees and groins make good targets against the taller in real life settings.

:nod:Congratulations DarkMonkey. I think the belt ranks I worked hardest to get meant the most to me. :bawling:It is kind of like when you feel the worst is when you find out how much you really want to do karate. The greater the struggle to continue reveals how much more the karate is living inside of you. Kind of strange how something can infiltrate so deeply inside of us.

Hello This is a very interesting place. Enjoy

I am a recent addict to Pharoah. And yes I know it is not one of the latest releases. I have the Cleopatra expansion. And the Zeus demo. Zeus is the latest in the expansion line. Anyone else into strategy games? I find I love building cities.

Sunrise/sunset, hmmmmm. I spend so much time on the internet I can't even tell you what day if the week it is half the time. I just know that afer it has been dark a long time now it is safe to use a communal room in the building to train in without disturbing anyone in the process.

I do have to admit one thing about the new AOL 7.0 is when you sign off they no longer tell you how long you have been on. :nod:So now when I sign off it can't tell me i've been on 6 or 7 hours. -
Wow Jack, that is a unique double promotions! Double congrats

DarkMonkey it is also possible that you were doing the kata correctly before and just slipped up. Regardless, please come back and tell us how your test went.

I agree with Jiggy. Music in tradional karate class - no. Music when working at home, your music to your taste. And yes, it is kind of hard to do a traditional kata with music in the background. I tend to move with the music instead of the timing the kata should have.

We do wear patches. The first patch, the club patch with the Shotokan tiger, is earned. Students are awarded the right to wear a patch. After a students earns the first belt and learns the next kata their dedication is awarded by being presented with a patch in class. This patch is worn on the front left side of the gi, as one parent elequently put it "Over the heart:. The only other patch is a kobudo patch. The right to wear this patch is also earned. After testing to a sixth kyu level with the second weapon a student is presented this patch with the new grading certificate.
