I have seen dumbbell presses and flyes done effectively on a fitness ball.

The weapon should fit the battlefield. There are many fields of battle and many weapons. An M16, which I have trained with by the way, is an inappropriate tool for a simple barfight. The first and most important battlefield everyone faces is the one within themselves. Until that battle is faced can any other battle truly be won.

Well I went searching and found some traditionally made kama. Made to be right and left handed, they even had wooden covers for the blades. Really cool and really expensive. Then I wandered into a site talking about whips and got very distracted. Spent a long time there reading. So no folding kama yet but I am having a good time.

This is an unfortunate but common problem. At it's best martial arts teaches respect. Unfortunately schools are not allways at their best. I think in many schools women students, where they are a definate minority of the enrollment, are at times treated a bit differently. Young higher ranking belts with attitude problems are many times also treated with less respect than their rank should entail. And then there are just days where it seems everyone in the dojo has an off day at the same time.

This is a fairly serious issue. In these days everyone should be concerned about blood contact. Aids/HIV is not the only blood born pathogen transmitted in blood. The problems this issue raises seem much crueller when they involve a young person. Should everyone have to take a blood test to determine their status? Good question. Those who have at any point in their life engaged in any activity where they might have been exposed should be tested regardless of whether or not they practice a martial art. When it comes to activities such as sparring where face contact,or any other training that may produce blood, is allowed everyone should be trained in proper cleanup techniques. Maybe a full contact training situation is not the best idea for anyone with HIV or any blood contagion. The benefits of martial arts should not be totally denied to those concerned. Their are other schools other arts which are not so combat oriented. I hope the youngster involved does get to train somewhere. Even if he is restricted to kihons and kata there is much to be gained. In a way the issue is further complicated by the fact that there are those who prey upon such people, without regards to themselves. A bit of self defense is an appropriate thing to learn.

I was looking at something in another site and came across this link. Http://www.dragon-tsunami.org/Dtimes/pages/articledt16.htm Thanks to MSN I had so much trouble editing this it will probably never work. God I hate msn. Well if you can hunt through the Tsunami site there is an article about karate in the olmpics. I have been disconnect like 6 times trying to make this link work. MSN is not fit for even the birds. Okay try Http://www.dragon-tsunami.org/ then click on dragon then on the right side of the page click the article. _________________ KarateForums Sempai Shotokan Karate, Bojitsu, Saijitsu [ This Message was edited by: SaiFightsMS on 2002-01-31 12:03 ] [ This Message was edited by: SaiFightsMS on 2002-01-31 12:08 ] [ This Message was edited by: SaiFightsMS on 2002-01-31 12:13 ] [ This Message was edited by: SaiFightsMS on 2002-01-31 17:42 ]

Whether we like it or not approval is a sort of basic human need. I remember a discussion a while back with a group of catholic converts. One person had a concern that his father, a protestant minister, did not approve of his choice to convert. After discussion it was discovered that this person was only in contact with his out of state father on a limited basis due to the distances involved. Allthough he very much wanted the approval of his father he could not offset the factor of who he was in contact with the most. Those living in daily contact with him where the ones who's opinion that mattered most. Don't know why I told this now. I guess it just seemed to come to mind. Who are we around the most? Who matters the most to us? That is who's approval we seek the most.

You know I did see a pair in some online catalogue. Unfortunately I was looking for something else and I forgot which site it was. I will keep this in mind next time I go searching.

Will power is something that grows with use, and need. The first step is deciding if you really want it.

I was introduced to the resistance tubing well over a dozen years ago during some rotator cuff rehab. Over the years I have used tubing in strength work for most areas of the body. A simple attatchment that slips into a doorframe allows placement of an anchor point at any height desired. Since the initial piece of tubing, handle and door attatchment I have replace most everything and gotten very creative. Simple training tools should never be under rated.

Well, in any event there will be no fight in Nevada. The boxing commission has had enough. And Lewis what does he have to say? Well it seems Tyson did bite a chunk of thigh out of his leg right through the pants!

Yes I would have to agree with what TKD McGee has said. Also I noticed that you said you experiences the symptoms when you stop. Sounds like you need to pay more attention to cooling down rather than just stopping cold. And then some of us to have endurance problems. The problem should lesson with time and continued training. It is good that you are returning to class as soom as able. It is also good that you seem to have an understanding instructor. It is better to stop before you hit the floor.

There are many different types of battlefields. And not all are physical.
-
There are many physical motions that are poetry in motion. Sometimes a roundhouse kick can be a beautiful thing. Particularly to someone who has struggled to do one. A well exectuted kata is a beautiful thing. When done in a manner that fits the person doing it, it becomes an art. Everyone learns a form in a cookie cutter manner. Stamped out to look like the same way everyone else does. When an individual takes that kata and works with it molding it into their own the form changes. The moves are still the same however they can be done with the dynamics of the individual highlighted.

180 and 90 turns to develop multi directional fighting
SaiFightsMS replied to AnonymousOne's topic in Karate
We have done a lot of turning drills like that. For some of us it is a dizzying experience, but useful. Over time my ability to tolerate this drill did improve a lot. -

Perhaps even another way of interpreting something like Karma.
