There are those with overly inflated egos in everything. Sometimes I think that the martial arts attracts more than their fair share. Too bad there is no "perfect" way to deal with them.

Now that it is summer here again I thought it might be nice to bring this topic back up.

It's been a few months since this was up. So does anyone coming in recently have a pet they would like to tell us about?

Welcome to the forum. Interesting name.

No big deal. I have one of those names in real life that can go either way. I have gotten mail addressed both to Patricia and Patrick for many years now. You kind of get used to it.

A good place to start would be the elimination of "super sized" fast food meals and products. Our ideas of proper portion sizes have gotten way out of hand.

So for all those who where looking at the "other" favorite kata thread this is where it leads. Has anyones choice of favorites changed over time?

Congratulations on getting a sponsor.

Here is what I read first about it a while back in a mailing list. Kitte was a kata created circa 1988 (? not sure of the date) by the senior ITKF people from different styles, I believe Shotokan, ****o ryu and Goju, for a competition called Fukugo. In fukugo competition, competitors are paired off and in the first round perform Kitte side by side, judges call a winner (red or white flag), and the winner advances to the next round. The next round is kumite, followed by another round of Kitte, with the final two advancing to the final kumite round. Since Kitte was not a traditional kata from any one style it was supposed to provide a level playing field for competitors of different styles. I like the idea behind this competition as it eliminates the "specialists" in either kata or kumite, and the best overall karate-ka win.

Your choice and many of us would have made the same decision. So make sure you warm up carefully. And get some rest time between now and then. -

Thanks for the thought Chh. Jim and Mary were both patients in a mental hospital. One day while they were walking past the hospital swimming pool, Jim suddenly jumped into the deep end. He sank to the bottom of the pool and stayed there. Mary promptly jumped in to save him. She swam to the bottom and pulled Jim out. When the medical director became aware of Mary's heroic act, he immediately ordered her to be discharged from the hospital, as he now considered her to be mentally stable. When he went to tell Mary the news he said, "Mary, I have good news and bad news. The good news is you're being discharged, because since you were able to jump in and save the life of another patient, I think you've regained your senses. The bad news is, Jim, the patient you saved, hung himself with his bath robe belt in the bathroom. I am so sorry, but he's dead". Mary replied, "He didn't hang himself, I put him there to dry!"

I have been very fortunate with my martial arts instructors to always have good ones. However, back in junior high I had a language arts teacher who just could not understand that I had no idea what most of what she was teaching about grammer was. I could pull of really good grades on a mulitiple choice test because I read a lot and always picked what sounded better. But come time to diagram a sentence or explain why it was better I was way lost. I was two more years before I had an english teacher who taught me the basic parts of speech.

If you were to design a weapon what would it be? Would it be a small hand held weapon or would it be a large one? Would it be bladed or not? Would it be held in one had or both?

We do a down block with both ends of the nunchaku held in the same hand so that it is the wood not the fist or forearm that does the block. That frees up to other hand for a grap or other use. We also do a lunging jab holding the hands sort of stacked on top of each other with the cords facing the opponent cords slack. The thrust is aimed for the solar plexus.

I just realized there were two threads about favorite katas. So I am going to close this one because it is the shorter thread and link to the older one. http://www.karateforums.com/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=66&forum=13&start=90&94

There was a kata named kitte that was created specifically for tournament competition. It's purpose was to give students from all styles an even footing. Does anyone know where a walk through description of this kata can be found?

I wonder how many other people read the misspellings and let it slide? This notice did get a high number of reads in a short amount of time. -

Then there is the dedicated golfer who thought that karate meant that the car ate the tee.

We did this as a writing exercise many years ago in grade school. I had a good friend who's Dad was a Chevy salesman. Their favorite family joke was that Ford stood for "fix or repair daily". So my friend, who just happaned to have a problems with recurring bronchitis started her piece : " I am a ford, I need to be fixed or repaired daily". True story.

Now, now KSN Doug we are martial artists and believe in condintioning. Don't you know that tough finger tips are vital for nukite's. -
There is a style of stationary bike that might prove usefull in such situations as well. Instead of regular handlebars they have rowing handles connected to the pedals. So that you can do an all lowerbody workout, an all upperbody workout or just use all four limbs together. Personally I find them extrememely usefull. I have had mine for about 14 years now. Just don't plan on doing a lot of reading on it.
