They were ment as blanket statements, taht is why it says ' as many claim " not directed at you. However I feel that one reason for the way Dillman is viewed comes from how this information is provided before the student has the skill to use it. Seminars selling information that was taught to higher ranked students often starting at Shodan or higher. Now there are Kids, white belts and even untrained seminar attendees that are told that the few techniques they are shown will work when a REAL confrontation happens ....... 99% of them will be hurt bad. The alignment of breath, stance, correct movement and body alignment is so important that unless the years of training are in place these techniques will fail. IMHO

No that was Sieyu Oyata and his students like Jim logue and Al Giraldi. Kyusho and Tuite are NOT Dillman creations as many claim.

Two Points 1. Most Karate styles use Pressure Points , But reserve the teachings for nidan and above. It is the why behind the most effective techniques, often styles geared towards tournaments will not focus on this since point accunmulation is the goal NOT SEVERE DAMAGE. 2. Dillman is not the most accurate source for this information too much focus on " palor tricks " like Light touch KO and No touch KO. Oyata/Odo based Ryukyu Kempo will give you much better applications for this information. IMHO.

Sounds like you found out that JAPAN has as many Crap instructors as the rest of the world. Being from Japan does not mean it is the best available training.

Remeber some moves in the Kata are not showing what you are doing but rather what you are making the other do.

Misunderstood MMA?
kempocos replied to Shane's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
What I have seen is much as others. As an example I will refer to the MMA instructor near my house. As most he is in his early mid twenties and states that he as taken some Karate, Juijitsu mostly from a guy who trained under a BJJ blue belt and that is like 3rd dan in ANY TMA. TKD, Boxing and from this vast background he has taken the very best they offer to create this MMA program. My issue is he never went beyond basics in anything so he never has seen the very best they offer. This is only an example and does not cover all MMA schools but it is a rising trend. -
Ryukyu kempo here , Oyata ;inage not the Dillman so called Kempo

From your statement I think you need better instruction. We sparring 2, 3 , 4 on 1 all the time. If only one explaination for any move in the KATA is being taught then there is much missing from your training. I agree that the KATA bashing comes from the mindset that the KATA is a grouping of moves that must be kept in oreder and only address ONE type of situation.

Shane makes some good points, ALL kata/forms training should include Bunkai/breakdown and then OYO/drilling the techniques. Kata is often seen a a sequence or a fight rather than a grouping of techniques to pick from. Whenyou are alone the help with footwork, transition, syncing the breathing with the movement, body postion of a techniques , angle of strike. then when you OYO or drill you refine the timing and intent with your partner. this way you do not think about Kata in a fight but rather react with what you have drilled

ULTIMATE Style vs style competition
kempocos replied to Cross_Trainer's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Pressure Point guru Master George A. Dillman from Ryukyu Kempo. If you want real RYUKYU KEMPO involved then it would be Taikia Oyata -
Jack is 62 and moves like he is 22.

Yes , also if you take thier balance you have also taken 50% of thier power , sio if theyt do counter it is less effective.

sounds alot like my Kempo and Isshinryu stances

Well said , I would like to add that the whole NHB fighting scene of UFC/PRIDE/KI/KING OF THE CAGE has the air of many and often Young MA to view any system that uses KATA/FORMS and spinning , jumping kicks to be useless. Also the tourny circuit in many cases has become cherrleading compitiitions with flashy forms /kata filled with gymnastics instead of realistic techniques and tippy tap point sparring. With every week dozens of " WORLD CHAMPIONS " being crowned.

There is another Hawaiian Kempo that is part of the Family style of the late Daniel Pai , Pai Lum Kung Fu . also Ed Parker worked on the Pai family ranch in Hawaii and was taught along side Daniel by Daniels grandfather for how long I do not know. I belive it is refered to as White Dragon Kenpo in the PAI LUM KUNG FU SCHOOLS.

Ryukyu kempo - Okinwian I first studied in OYATAS linage, now study in Tom Muncy/ Rick Moneymakers linage through the Dragon Society. What Sasori Te posted applies to my Kempo as well

The RYUKYU (OKINAWIAN) KEMPO I train is more a grapple art than striking. The term TUITE ( grab/grabbing hand ) was used by Taikia Oyata and has been picked up by many others to describe grappling useing Pressure/vital points, Muscle Tears and joint destruction. TUITE comes from Chin Na since many Chinese lived in Okinawa and Okinawian Te. Some factions of Ryukyu Kempo such as Dillmans stay standing and emphisize striking, while others look to how to use the TUITE concepts on the ground. I have also been lucky to have an instructor base that see the need for ground work. Wally Jays Small Circle Jujitsu has some great techniques that we use. We also bring in someone who trains BJJ under Renzo Gracie and has trained in Catch as catch can and hook wrestling. I have found when taking standup grappleing concpets to the ground the base is the tough part. The limbs have the same range of motion it is just findig the base to create the proper fulcrum to create the stress damage. example: the classic armbar while the person is on thier back the floor is the base, when you lean back and postion the elbow your leg is the fulcrum. When the pulling the wrist down the stress damage happens to the elbow and perhaps shoulder depending on the postion of thier arm to your leg.

Bruces body and endurance was like an athletic 18 yr old,but his mind was of a 90 yr old.Got hit on the head a lot when he sparred with challangers. Dan insanto is around 67-68? hes still got a great body and can move as he could 30 years ago. Some folks believe all the fairy tales, the whole bruce fight record is one without any proof.

this is Oyatas school, there is no way his name will come up.

Two Styles as a Martial Arts Beginner
kempocos replied to Bleeding Lion's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
How long have you been training goju? You say you do not have much experience, then it sounds like you still need to learn GOJU, I think you would be better off taking some type of wreastling or BJJ for ground work, maybe a Filipino style for the stick work. TKD is a striking art which you already have a source of. Besides IMHO Goju is much better than TKD. Think compliment not replace the information you are getting from Goju -
This style is Okinawian Ryukyu Kempo , you can go to https://www.kushu.com, or https://www.rushu.com. The style is a old style karate system that targets vital points and exploits them through strikes , kicks, ( kyusho ) or grappling with breaks / muscle tears / joint locks ( tuite ). It is more like Goju than it is like American Parker style Kenpo. The head of the style Taikia Sieyu Oyata is the real deal.

here are two OYATA based RYUKYU KEMPO schools. They train hard like Oyata did in Okinawa. The nodn protection thing will be tough due to insurance. I can say bthey do bogu kumite which uses gear, but they go full out , no pulling punchs or kicks, full power and speed. The style is about a balance of both. staying in close useing strikes to setup a grapple techinque be it a lock or a break/muscle rip. The modern arnis is real cool , Some TKD schools do sticks but not like Filipinos. The stances and movements complent the Kempo real nice. And Wally Jay is a legend and his small cirlce ju jitsu kicks butt. Mark as a 7th dan with Dillman got to spend alot of time with him. Remember you will hear / read things about dillman, Mark left him due to diffrances in concepts. I think it is worth a trail run of a month or so, you can alway quit. Do not sign a long term contract.
