How long have you been involed in the MA's?
Cybren replied to Shorinryu Sensei's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Just a little over ten years. -
What do you carry self defense wise?
Cybren replied to HongKongFooey's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
Not that I have one, but daym! -
No it doesn't
-
Did you say metal cup? Metal doesn't belong that close down there.
-
I have one that does that, it's damn uncomfortable and no cup i've ever used really was that good. I'm thinking getting one three times bigger then I need.
-
On the issue of groin shots, let me just say this. Let's just say, after one or two shots to my junk, my cup tends to move away from it, and certain parts are exposed. The problem is, I don't notice until the next shot there, in which case I'm in such great pain I regret ever using a cup. This wouldn't be a problem, but I usually get atleast three junk shots a class. And not just by the gals.

Ussually when blood flows into a place, it gets warm. When people meditate, they tend to get relaxed, and blood can flow more freely.

Is JKD too complicated?

Maybe he is misreading the J for a T? -
I always liked to say "Profound people say profound things, dumb people quote them"

Food for thought on "real" Ki/Chi/prana
Cybren replied to Stold's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Err, not exactally. Oxygen is used by cells in our body to convert glucose into ATP. Aerobic respiration produces far more ATP then anareobic respiration. -
I don't mean to be intrusive, but how many times have you had to defend yourself?

Damnit Jim, I'm a doctor, not a comic book geek!

You understand Jeet Kune Do was created because Bruce Lee hated people who did things like tournaments? Hell, Bruce Lee was the guy who made full-contact sparring mainstream. And his (Inosanto's)"Dance of Death" was, as far as I know, just something his character did in The Game of Death (Atleast, in the footage that Lee filmed before dying) -
It looks like a bondage toy... Err, not that I'd know...

Yeah, things like nightshade, that's a good one. All natural!

"Have no way as way, no limitations as limitation". Bruce Lee created Jeet Kune Do to emphasize using what works. Not mixing every style and every thing. He used what works. The same applied to fighting. You want to use exactally what will work best and only that. After all, "...you must be like water". -
TJJ or Judo???
Cybren replied to Judo Warrior's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I say flip a coin. -
I think that's really your problem. Don't think about hitting him, I mean, then you'll be off in dream land for even a split second, and he'll have moved. See him, hit him. If you can, try to "predict" his movements. Lead him with your hits... Besides, you're 38, right? You're not exactally ancient. If you want to find out, see how fast you drive.

A black belt doesn't mean anything. It's a noun. An object used to hold up pants.

TJJ or Judo???
Cybren replied to Judo Warrior's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
First of all, you should ask yourself if there's any Judo or JuiJutsu schools in your area. If there are, then great! Try to observe some classes or such, talk to the students. Get your own opinion, not our (obviously biased) ones. -
White Belt: Learning How to Learn
Cybren replied to monkeygirl's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
(This post might seem as if I'm intentionally being argumentive, and I don't mean any offense by it) I concur with CaptainHeelHook. If you spend months learning how to "tie a belt", then you must not be very coordinated. Surly you can be taught technique while being exposed to ettituite? Perhaps that could be a good moment to reevaluate your own technique. If they're doing something "wrong" because it feels more natural, it may very well work better. Generally the human body likes to keep itself balanced. -
Is TKD considered Karate?
Cybren replied to taekwonho's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
That's not really much of an argument anymore, Tae Kwon Do is probably much more famous, thanks to the whole "it's in the olympics" and all.
