Even though I was taught to full contact spar by John Graden and William Wallace, I learned to point spar and winning kata by Ms. Kathy Marlor at the former USA Karate in St. Petersburg, Florida, who won the 1991 World Open Tae Kwon Do championship in London, England, so, I guess that answers that question, Hmmm Peace http://community.webshots.com/user/jakmak521

I think maybe your splitting hairs here...I was specifically referring to tournament/point fighting.... now if I struck you in the throat (hypothetically),with a ridgehand and crushed your thorax during a street/barroom brawl, which is a move I learned in martial arts class, I would pretty much say that Karate( or any other martial art) was very effective, even in the most extreme no -rules fight.. yes, your absolutely right about the comps being a game, they are...and I enjoy the social aspect more than the actual winning..and as I said before, it's not the actual requirement of the forms/kata, it's also (in addition to) the discipline, endurance and other CV benefits that I enjoy...the movements learned for the kata are not so much unnatural as just not learned...this is just my opinions and views, not meant for you to sum up things for your own conclusions.. Those who weight train. What is your regiment?
jakmak52 replied to BlueDragon1981's topic in Health and Fitness
My preference is very light weights with high repetitions, abs every day, upper and lower alternating days with days in between for tissue recovery... Peace http://community.webshots.com/user/jakmak521 -

What style do you study? And Why?
jakmak52 replied to BlueDragon1981's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
American Tae Kwon Do/ITF variation, also a little shootfigting, and some regular judo to round off the rough edges, just in case we need some skills in the horizontal position close to terra firma Peace http://community.webshots.com/user/jakmak521 -
Nothing Beats W2K Professional, XP is the memory hog from you know where, and yes the registration process is like trying to obtain Executive orders...But I also love Linux Peace http://community.webshots.com/user/jakmak521

Emotional, spiritual and mental strengths should be the governing baseline, I believe women are stronger in these respects because of social and family rearing issues, men go straight to anger/fear, skipping the hurt/embarrassed, etc.. feelings.. I also believe men are stronger in the muscle arena, however women excel in stamina and endurance, (maybe speed too ) ERA has taken the power or desire for men to be galant or chivalrous towards our counterparts for fear of reprisal... Thinking about TKD
jakmak52 replied to van_damme's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I prefer the Desert Eagle for firepower ...I'd say 70% kicks and 30% hand techniques... Peace http://community.webshots.com/user/jakmak521 -
I like to wear Tokaido or Juka 14 oz. Black Tournament cut for competition and regular 10 oz. for practice. They're on the pricey side, but the quality and longevity is worth the extra bucks...the 14 oz. pops louder than the 10 oz. for grabbing those discerning judges attention Peace http://community.webshots.com/user/jakmak521

I agree Bob, that's gotta be the worst display of kata I've ever seen, the best places I know to observe true kata, poomse, forms is either the Diamond Nationals in Minnesota, the Battle of Atlanta, or the US Open in Orlando, which I am proud to announce that I will be competing again this year on July 5th wish me luck.. Executive Men's (Mentally challenged ) division..
