I have considered it Inner depression or selflessness? (probably depression) It came from within but it is likely to have been said before.

I would say that you are training too much. I find that amazing Building up to big poundages is the foundation of an abbreviated routine. To not gain in strength would suggest that you may have been doing a "kind of" abbreviated training routine. What people sometimes do is train too intense for the body to recover. Training twice a week at full bore could prove to be just too much for you. Perhaps you could have experimented with once a week full bore and once half your max. It is hard to convince folk that abbreviated training works, especially when they have "tried" it and not seen the results that it can bring. Honestly give it another go, read one of the books I suggested and things will really come together. If you look at Stoneskins sample workout it is actually a semi-abbreviated routine. All that said I respect that we are all different.

Respect to you stoneskin. Your achievements look great got any pics to post in the photo album?

Good advice. We teach each kata feet only before we introduce the hands. Would you be so courteous as to repond to Lu Bu's question smr?

Mainly Shisoshin (Goju kata). I study each kata I know for about a month at the time. Break it down it small parts and refine my movements. Bunkai of kata is my true love though. I love practicing bunkai and developing various other bunkai for each of the moves, it is all endless........ You keep on helping that 29 year old. Help others and others will help you...... CheekyMusician: have you tried doing your kata blindfolded or with your eyes closed? It's a great way to develop balance. Also make sure you know where your feet are when you move through back stance. You probably do already but when you bring your feet to the midpoint (together or near together) this should give you an indication of where your feet should be going too. Just a suggestion.

I hope so too. As this is one of the most basic principles of karate technique.

Have a little read of this, kinda the same thing: http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=8790 I think that a traditional makiwara is buried in the ground. At the base there is a large rock placed in front of the plank, towards the suface another rock is placed behind the plank. The hole is filled with tightly packed soil not concreted. This allows for the makiwara to flex in the hole aswell as the makiwara as itself. The plank tapers as it goes up. I am sure that I saw it on the net some where and I have seen it in numerous books.

It appears that noone actually knows the belt system of Shudokan Karate. Perhaps you should ask someone from your club. At the end of the day the order of belts is of little consequence. Let us know when you find out though.

What is your general strategy for fighting? I generally wait for my opponent and intercept him as soon as I see him move. Works for me I will change my strategy if it does not work on a certain opponent but this is my general strategy. Guys and girls this is not a debate on the most effective strategy, we are all individuals please respect this when posting.

I am spiralling down a pit of despair. It is not that I hate my job it is more the fact that it does not fit my life. My partner has to work in the evenings and the kids and I miss her. I can not train regular. Despite not having much or asking for much in life I still struggle financially. I cannot see light at the end of the tunnel. I so long to have my own business or to change to a more successful job, but would this make me happy. I am not sure. I am mentally stable

Sorry Joanne I have been mistaking the Polo for the Lupo, but everthing still applies. Chosen yet?

Anyone know of any good online financial advice?
-
Where on earth did correspondence courses spring up from? Does anybody know anyone that is on one or tried one? I understand that you grade by sending a video of yourself
-
What are the rules of Kyokushins 100 man kumite? What grade do you take it at?
-
I would not intoduce a new kata to the curriculum that I study as there is plenty to study already. However I would introduce techniques from other styles to fill the gaps in the style that I teach/practice.

Yes some people are "born to fight". Some physically and some mentally. The ones with the natural physical ability will do well in lots of sports, these are the ones I admire. The mental ones usually have issues to overcome these people I do not envy at all. They have psychological problems that I would not like to have to overcome. Martial arts can help these people but most will always be "looking for a fight". Don't get me wrong there are people that are good people who can enjoy fighting. But no Good person will enjoy inflicting pain on someone. If you are a natural fighter then make the most of your ability but please keep your feet on the ground.

UsagiYojimbo noone intended to offend anyone. Although I am sure that we all respect your believe and offer our apologies for any offence caused. I am interested as to why you left Christianity for "Witchcraft" (correct term?). If you do not wish to elaborate on the forum then feel free to pm me. However I am sure that it would be of interest to all of us and noone will ridicule you for which path you choose to follow in life.

How old are you? What type of training do you use? When I was younger I could not gain anything, not so much a problem now though! I tried all sorts of routines and diets. One day a friend pointed me in the direction of abbreviated training. For the first time in my weight-lifting career I started to gain, rather rapidly I might add. I principle is only core, compound exercises done once or twice a week with maximum intensity. It really is the best way to go. Read 'Brawn' or 'Beyond Brawn' by Stuart McRobert, they will sum it up better than I ever could. You could also try visiting the Hardgainer website: https://www.hardgainer.com I can elaborate if you wish. I am not sure about creatine. I maybe mistaken but I have been lead to believe that creatine retains water in your muscles and only gives a false impression of your muscles true size.
