  1. I'm so glad I chose to take Bio instead of Physics for next year!
  2. Haha, cool, it even says it beneath my name!
  3. Whoa, really? Thanks! *clears throat* ..wow.. this is.. I'm speechless.. well.. I'd like to thank Patrick for mantaining this forum and its members who contribute. Alright, now, envy me!
  4. Thuggish, you exaggerated a bit. You're not supposed to get into a peaceful state and love thy enemy when you get hit in the face, the point is, you just can't lose your head. Stay focused and sharp, don't start swinging like a mad man. Aggression and complete rage a bit different. Learn to either stay calm or learn to control your anger. Basically, hold your thoughts in higher regards than your instinctual emotions during a fight. To answer your question, I've been in tons of fights, some quite serious and some less so. But I always walked away with only a few bruises and welts.
  5. There's no such things as a better team in a soccer match, it's always the referee or the weather
  6. heh, yes, I do do that. I don't really "remember" to do it, I just do it. Practice doing it with a punching bag.
  7. Uh.. is that like Circus of the Sun or something?
  8. Speed is just a rate at which something travels. Velocity is speed and direction.
  9. On the very top, where it says FAQ, Search, Login, Usergroups, Statistics and all that, there is one that says "Profile". Click that, go to the very bottom section that says "Avatar Control Panel", upload a very small (the specs are listed) picture from your computer using the Browse button. Then hit Okay, Accept, Done, or whatever it says.
  10. I'm going to try to explain this the best way I can. The most powerful way to hit a target (in my opinion, at least) is to throw the punch in a relaxed state (gives you speed), and then tensing up immediately before you impact (so that your arm is a "solid structure" and can deal with the force of the impact). Our muscles are naturally built to retract, the more you retract or the harder it is to retract, the more strength you are using. This would be like what you do when you do a bicep curl, your muscle retracts when you bring the bar closer to your chest. Therefore, when you relax, it is easier to detract (lol, I don't even know if that's the antonym of retract or not, but let's pretend it is) since your muscles aren't engaged and prepared to either retract or stay in the same position that they are. Now.. I hope that made sense. Basically.. relaxed = more speed. So, why you feel your hits have more "power" when you are relaxed is because your punches have more speed, and speed very much affects how "hard" you hit. See the We're talking Physics thread in the General Martial Arts forum for a more technical and detailed explanation of how power speed affect each other. Also, I talked only about punches, but the same principle applies for kicks, etc.
  11. Sorry guys, I didn't mean for this to happen. Okay, after reading your post 5 times through, I think I finally understand what you're saying. Power, which ultimately determines the force of impact, or how hard you hit, is dependant on acceleration, which is, by definition, a change in speed? And to increase our rate of acceleration (how much the speed increases/decreases in the relationship to the time it takes to do so) we should train in plyometrics? ...right?
  12. I don't think it's any particular style. Just flashy acrobatics.
  13. Usually becoming tense is a product of intimidation. Are you new to sparring? Still a little afraid of taking a hit? That's probably the reason, to relax yourself is pretty much mental.
  14. Force = Mass x Acceleraction (squared) There you go
  15. uhm, I'd say both power and speed are a necessity to become a good fighter.
  16. Don't worry about it too much, most users use IE anyway. The rest probably use Mozilla or Safari, and those are pretty much have the same compatability as IE.
  17. I know but I still had to choose Kenpo.
  18. lol, I hope I never get a black belt.
  19. Duh, Kenpo! Isn't it obvious?
  20. Well, the guy you quoted is simply incorrect. It's not an isolation exercise.
  21. But, one place or another, you said bench press was an isolation exercise. If that's an isolation exercise, then just about every other common technique in weight lifting is as well.
  22. I lost Photoshop 6 when I had to re-install Windows, and my friend lost the CD to it. I feel so lonely without it :/
  23. Ah well, we still make better watches, chocolate and knives
  24. Uhm.. are we talking about organized fights, such as boxing, or something like a fight in a bar? Also, how can bench press be useless? It's almost the exact same thing as a push up.
