  1. A handgun, ofcourse, is the easiest way to defend yourself. But if it ever comes to the situation of having to defend yourself and you pull your gun, and fire... then you're in a big mess. Even if it was self defense, that doesn't mean you won't have to go to court and explain yourself why you shot the person why was merely trying to snatch your wallet. I sometimes carry a 5% spring assisted knife with a 3 inch blade. I don't yet do martial arts... but I've trained myself with knives and swords pretty well. I've never stabbed or cut (except myself, on accident) anyone with it. But once I did take it out of my pocket... all I did was some fancy hand tricks (sort of how you can spin it around your hand with a butterfly knife) and the 2 guys walked away. Now if only butterfly knives were legal, then I could really show off But I don't really live in a rough neighborhood, the 2 guys that threatened to attack me were just pissed off cause I was going out with one of his ex gf's at the time. If you really live in a rough neighborhood where you're worried you could get killed... get a gun! A beretta 9mm semi isn't bad really... my friend has one.. it never jams.
  2. There's a TON of Kempo/Kenpo schools around my area. And most of them teach Ed Parker's American Kempo... But there's also one that teaches Kara-Ho Kempo... I researched both styles as much as I could, and I am leaning toward Kara Ho. But most of it depends on how good the school is, so I'll go check out the two closest (Kara Ho and Ed Parker's) and see which school I like the most. If they're both about the same, I'm gonna go with Kara Ho. ...But if you have a different opinion on the two styles... Feel free to enlighten me. ...And when you mentioned self defense techniques. What exactly are 'Katas'?
  3. Next time he slaps you.. slap him back. An eye for an eye, right? Then he most likely will try to hit you back... if he does so... THEN you can start to teach him a lesson. ...or you could just grab his wrist, twist it, and calmly tell him to never do it again... that's the least violent method to leave a lasting impression
  4. A male is naturally stronger. But.. women don't hesitate to grab another mans balls.. and we all know that such an attack could even take down the late Bruce Lee. But ofcourse.. strength isn't the only thing that will win a fight.
  5. Alright... just out of curiousity I'd like to ask why some of you chose martial arts and why you chose your particular style. For instance, did you choose martial arts because this anus at school kept on sticking your head on the toilet? Or were you just bored? Or what? Why I'm going to get into martial arts is because 1. I like to take advantage of all potential I have, for instance, I can't stand knowing that I have the potential to.. let's say.. throw 10 punches in under 2 seconds (I don't even know if thats possible, just an example) and not taking advantate of it. Also... I have nothing better to do. Yeah and don't forget to add why you chose your particular style! That's what I'm most interested in.
  6. Hello... First of all, I guess I should introduce myself.. my name is Gabe and I'm 15 years old. Recently I got to know my math teacher quite well (which is coinsidently my worst subject) and I found out she has a 1st degree adult black belt in Shaolin Kung Fu, and she talked me into taking martial arts classes. Ever since I was about 7 I wanted to take martial arts classes, but I was horribly shy, so I never dared to try them. But now, I've changed a lot. So I decided to start Kempo (or Kenpo) classes in a couple weeks. So I was wondering if some of you could give me a general idea of what it's like. I know quite a lot from my own research and friends... and my teacher ofcourse. But I was just wondering if some of you could give me some more insight. Also, have any of you taken Kempo? Maybe you could explain to me what the style is like. Ofcourse.. I already researched it on the internet. But I'd rather hear it from a person with their own experience. Thanks!
