  1. Pawn Shops and flea markets... It seems truck drivers are able to bring them in without too many problems.
  2. My nick name is 'the broom' because of my sweeps. I try to keep people busy by attacking the head and body with my hands, getting in as close as a I can. To close the distance I use kicks, then punches and then low gedan mawashi thai style. No matter how things are going I continue to attack with gedan mawashi, in the end it pays off. Judoka are the hardest to sweep. We fight full contact so the distance, timing, etc is going to be different in point style. sj
  3. Well said by an ITF TKD guy. When I mention sport TKD, ITF is NOT what I had in mind.
  4. lol I know, I know...in my neck of the woods all the TKD is McDojoish and sport style. Karate is usally done full contact and we have many who cross train in our city with boxing. So, I guess I should have included "IMO."
  5. No thanks. Three words, 'Tae Kwon Do.'
  6. To believe Oshima or any sensei had never changed the style they teach is a load of crap. All dojo teach something a little different.
  7. So, what have we come up with so far? Kung fu folks believe kung fu is too dangerous and therefore limited in mma fighting, while the other camp believes kung fu isn't fit for the mma ring (octagon). Which is it?
  8. Other then your dangerous self.
  9. Mas Oyama was also apart of the Japanese yakuza...he offered to have a pro wrestler wacked when he choked out the Kimura (who beat Heilo Gracie). The fight was to be a work but the pro wrestler failed to follow script, by the time Kimura realized it, it was too late. Oyama was madder then hell and tried to convince Kimura to have him wacked using his contacts. Funny but true.
  10. Mas, the "God hand."
  11. Canada is very different.
  12. What is the best legal weapon you can carry (without a permit)?
  13. I've been in shotokan dojos for 15 years now and have seen a trend within the last 10 years where the shotokan karateka are looking more into the historical aspects of fighting and reintroducing them back into shotokan. I see more traditional bunkai (shorin ryu style bunkai), more joint locks and throws, etc. Has anyone else noticed this? I fully agree with the 'new' shotokan if it can be called that.
  14. As long as you know and understand the kata of your dojo, why not create your own.
  15. Ever hear of America Te?
  16. Did you need a kata? I must have over 35 empty handed kata on video on my hard drive not to mention weapons kata, and kung fu forms. sj
  17. It's the shito ryu version of the TSKA...so yes, it may be different then the kata you are use to. Think of it like shotokan sochin and shito's sochin. OSU! sj PS: A shotokanized verison also exists, but I'm sure you'd say 'it isn't so!'
  18. http://www.zen31941.zen.co.uk/videos/suparinpai.wmv Found a link...hurry before it disappears.
  19. I should be able to help you out very soon, a guy on another forum is sending me a video via email and I'll email it to you...if you like. sj
  20. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing a style just thought it was funny.
  21. I recently read that 'Combat Hapkido' is like saying Combat Army...both are made for combat so stating 'combat' in the name sounds silly. I found it funny. sj
  22. Hyakuhachiho (suparinpei, shotokan verison). It was the hardest kata to find, hardest to learn and hardest (and longest) to perform. IMO.
  23. Anyone know where I can find a pair of real kama, or a pair of 'good' gardening sickles?
  24. I speak Canadian English, Ehh?
  25. I asked my kobudo sensei, he said it's cone...I dont know. lol
