I wear light running shoes and kick a water bag with my toe. The shoe holds them nice and tight...give it a try.
-
I have taped myself before, doing kata, kihon, sparring and bag work. It really opens your eyes to the holes in your game.
-
I use the ball of the foot, my sensei uses the big and second toe. If you have shoes on, you'll end up using your toe. Using the heel is a stomp kick, is that what your talking about? It has a different purpose.

I've seen a couple of different ways to wrap the hands, how do you wrap in between the fingers?

Thanks guys, I orded a couple pairs of 14oz. I have a bunch of big guys in the dojo. I read on sherdog that in thailand the fighers use 4-6oz. is this true?
-
What size sparring gloves does your club use? 10, 12, 14oz? I've seen them as big as 20oz.

I agree hobz. But I think orthodoxy of style will lead to that, if you don't ruin yourself in a style that is restrictive. I find Shotokan to be one that is very restrictive and I hope I'm doing a good job of teaching it in a lose and less traditional manner by including elements of Shogen ryu.

I think it has something to do with the toe and which direction they point. In shotokan kiba dachi we point our toes forward causing stress on the knee compounded by lower stance and you get bad knees. I don't think kung fu uses the same stance.

I am. I take it you are as well? I've been in contact with Roger Oster from Mendowood and about to place my order. They seem like a once in a life time buy and a solid weapon.

http://store.yahoo.com/yhst-1129393017033/index.html If you looking for a good quaility weapon...we are looking into using the shillelagh but it seems a bit heavy.

A black belt should mean you understand the basic's well enough to teach...and fight to defend yourself. I'm sick of seeing McDojo black belts come to my dojo and get their * handed to them from one of green belt girls. So I always included proper understanding and proper use in real time for black belt level.

I think Yoshitaka is the same guy as Gigo...

The shorin I've trained in and have seen doesn't have any high kicks, which branch of shorin do you study?
-
Goju and Shotokan are not even close, even in the begining. TO has a ton of great schools, take your time and you'll find what your looking for. Tsuroka's karate is in TO, check that out.

Hands down the best full contact kyokushin/isshin ryu dojo in Ontario, perhaps all of Canada (and I run a full contact dojo ). Shihan Mady has also had a fighter in K1... Also check out Kihon Karate in Windsor, very well rounded fighters.

I do the single handed grip bhata and it works the shoulder and the top of the forearm very well. We just recieved a grading syllabus and we have a ton of stuff to do to grade. OSU!

I have to say the cane is most under rated weapon in the world. It looks harmless, no more potent as a weapon then a stick of 3'. I had the chance to do extensive work with the crook on a combat cane from Cane Masters last night and it was mind blowing... I have been working with the Irish bhata on and off for a few months and thought I knew what to expect, but I didn't have a clue. Take a look at cane as a weapon, it won't let you down. OSU! Sho-ju

http://www.alliancemartialarts.com/quarterstaff.htm Combat Manuals http://www.duchy.dyndns.info/yeomen/manuals.html How well do you think the quarter staff stands up to the Okinawan bo? Have you ever done the quarterstaff?

I didn't know Bjj had yellow belts...

It was Gigo's idea.

If you want a high quality gi for a very good price, order one from BoSE. It's nice and soft but very stronge. 16oz brushed cotton. It costs me about $75 Canadian dollars...

I finally got to do some Irish bata, single stick. It was very interesting. The shillegah is a very easy weapon to swing, but the blocks take a lot of work on timing. We did 6 strike drills for about 1 hour with and without partners, and then 10 strike drills solo. I was suprised by how light the shillegah are, but how dense and durable the wood is. Cool weapon.
