Even in full contact dojo's full contact is the used all the time. If you did, class would be once a month due to injury.... Full contact karate has to be experianced by you, for you to know how it affects your training.

$30 for kyu I supply belt $100 for shodan, I supply belt again. We have to pay for sensei to come to our dojo and this is what the cash goes toward.

I box. I can say boxers use both styles of punching, but no reverse punch. IMO it's because of the glove. The boxer has to punch through the glove first, the karateka is punching with a bare fist.

What is a left hook called at your school?

Center Line in Karate
Sho-ju replied to Sho-ju's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
When I first started karate 15 years ago I was always told that all my blocks must drive up your center. It sounds like I misunderstood the WC center line idea. We are always making sure our center is protected and blocked at all time. -
I need tips on conditioning the legs for taking leg kicks. Any other tips on general conditioning are welcomed.

I like a right cross, but throw a mean lead hand upper cut. Not sure about the roundhouse punch...is that a hook?

Left front kick (push), right cross, left hook, right cross, sweep or throw. Left jab, right cross, left hook, right cross, sweep or throw. Right knee, left hook, right cross, sweep or throw.

Make sure you know where the other hand is, get you foot on the inside of the karateka's leg. Push your hips back and down while driving your heel toward the floor. It's easlier to teach in person and works very well. You can always pull guard.

I was graded according to kata and kata bunkai for my nidan, my shodan was standard JKA.

Is anyone here teaching and hates it?

People kept asking me to open a dojo. When my sensei asked me to, how could I say no?

Monk's Cane

http://www.egreenway.com/taichichuan/staff.htm The best site on sticks I have ever seen. Even lists Irish stick. -
(I havent' ordered one yet, I've been busy getting Cumann Bhata Chatham off the ground, working two new bo kata and revising the grading syllabus. OSU!) I like the two handed grip, it gives you the option of a single grip at anytime with any hand. Hip throws are staple in my game, so I like to use a two handed grips for in close. You have more power in close with the two handed grip then you do with a single handed grip. I do however use a cleith de bhata (long heavy stick) made of dog wood, it's root nob is hugh, dense. It's a little longer then a shillelagh, weights around 2lbs so I use a two handed grip. I'm building speed right now with it, but I have to say, the two handed grip is working for the bigger bhata. Note: I don't believe one is not better then the other I just like the two handed grip, it's suits the way I fight. I'm going to snap a pic asap and put it up on the bata group...it's a beaut but still in the works. The head is 3.5"

Good point.

The best full face protection is a block. I'm stupid, I know. Our dojo uses boxing headgear and boxing gloves.

I cut a Maple tree sappling out of the ground. We sue the root nob as the shillelagh cean (head)... We also use other hard woods, but maple is the easy to find in my area. I also have a a cleith de bhata (long heavy stick) made of dog wood, it's root nob is hugh, dense and easy to swing.

I put a shillelagh outside after it bent, it was on its way to the road for pick up. When I went to get it a couple of days latter the cure was gone. It sat in the snow, I don't know if this will help at all...

The site said it was made (the shaft) from a metal rod and epocy... It comes in at about 1.5 - 2lbs. When you place your order they cut it to fit you size. It's a good deal over all...
