    Fav Kata

I love hangetsu, tekki, ananku and bassi dai. What's yours? (sorry, I ran out of poll slots)
  3. Can anyone shed light on this? I prefer to use sanchin dachi in this kata...
  4. It's important to note that most street fights end up on the ground because most people do not train to fight or defend themselves. If a person is a trainned karateka (not a point fighter) in the street the fight stays standing in most cases. BJJ is awsome don't sleep on it, but don't throw the baby out with the bath water when it comes to karate...

    Kata Video

The library I work for just ordered them and I'll get back to you on the quality and content.
  6. Also see Matsumura Kempo. http://www.pestproducts.com/Kempo/kempo_history.htm http://www.ryukyukempo.com/weapons.html
  7. That's what I was thinking. If Newton couldn't take Hughes then Karo will not. I would like to see Hallman fight Hughes again, if he's able to take him (and I think he can do it again sometimes people just have your number) then have Hallman fight Karo. Karo wins and then moves on to fight Newton and Newton takes him and we have Newton as champ again. That's my wishful thinking.
  8. https://www.sherdog.com had a bunch of video clips of shotokan karateka fighting bbj guys and getting the snott beat out of them. Keep in mind that the bbj guys were blue belts fighting 3rd and 4th degrees in a point style shotokan....
  9. Did you guys see the new judo guy out of Gokor/LeBelle camp? It was the sickest roll to a kimura I've ever seen.
  10. I think Ed Parkers system is situation-based self-defence, which makes it difficult to apply until you have reached a high level of proficiency. It’s also easy to see that a lot of flash is part of the system, IMO; a lot of traditional martial artists prefer direct technique over flash. IMO of course. This doesn’t make the style less effective just harder to use.

    Kata Video

Thanks for the tip about SSMA, but I have talk to, seen him in action and know some of his black belts. I live about an hour away from his club. It's not really what I'm looking for, but thanks again.
  12. I sparred with a uechi ryu 4th dan but never seen the kata. I did see the videos but I'm always leary about videos teaching karate. Where I live there is only shorin ryu and that's it so I'm stuck. I want to learn and see other systems....
  13. What do you think of Pang gai noon/uechi ryu? It looks good but I haven't seen anything done in person.

    BOsE

I have a R.E.I. gi, it's thick and ruff but it's almost ten years old and like new. A good buy if you can get one.

    Kata Video

No one has ever bought kata video before?
  16. I never kept mine. The only ones I have are for shodan and nidan.
  17. He did come off 'trying' to sound like a rabbi giving a teaching on the meaning of kata when all I wanted to know was what kata do you teach. I never got an answer and I emailed him 3x. Is he any good himself?

    BOsE

http://www.canbox.ca/ It's a Canadian website so all prices are in Canadian dollars. The student weight gi's are heavy, I'd say thicker then the Century and my students like the feel much better. They don't come in black, at least not until next year and the website doesn't have pic's of the gi's. They sent me a couple of flyers with the pic's of gi's, weapons, cloth sparring gear, foam head gear as well as great and I mean great deals on leather thai pads and focus mitts. The order came within 2 days. BOsE is becoming a big name in boxing and also supplies all boxing/thai boxing equipment as well. My brother had his first mma fight a little while ago and used the bose mixed gloves for training and the match. Good stuff. I'm not sure about the Top Ten brand, never ordered any. OSU!

    Kata Video

I was looking into ordering kata on video, could anyone suggest a tape or series that conveys the kata in an easily to learn method? It doesn’t matter what style I’m only interested in them for personal use and study and feel that one cannot learn a kata ‘well’ without a sensei. Due to injuries (blown ankles) I need to start looking at other kata for training, kata without the deep kiba dachi as found in shotokan. Someone suggested I learn Saifa…
  21. It was Marx himself. I'm a Christian and a karateka but this guy is a crackpot, I agree.
  22. I emailed them asking about kata and had a cryptic answer in return. It seems cultic.

    makuso

We have a very good warm up and find that this helps to "still the mind." We are relaxed and focused for class after 20 to 25min. of warmming up.
  24. I've only seen Shotokan and Shito ryu do these kata, any other styles train these?

    Books...

Good question and I look forward to hearing the answers myself...
