Krav Maga or Wing Chun?
Icetuete replied to Anzie's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
its more than just this. i think an completely unexpierenced person can learn the basics (the first belt or whatever) in a few months with just one lesson of training. so the first belt apparently is not much and perhaps close to nothing or whatever, but i dont think it is better to load them with the full stuff right from the beginning, like telling them its a MUST to train 3+ times a week, let them spar blackbelts or go outside with them. beginners have to be led to martial arts and not yet completely involved to them. -
thats about what i thought as well delta1. i think he regards TKD training as a chance to become not only more flexible and to learn the basics of kicking, striking etc, but it will also make him a faster runner, train his reactions, makes him stronger etc, in other words makes him a better (a good?) overall athlet. tkd is really good and gets u into shape, but is this true?

i still dont quite get what i ripcord is. could u tell us how exactly they work -
i thought in many arts "the black belt is only the beginning" but as i stated; they might regard a BB a different way. and yes, there are two (actually three) "systems" as u called them. the olympic WTF that teaches Full Contact sparring and how to score points in sparring duels, and the ITF that teaches self defense, mental stuff and is more traditional orientated. many people only see the, more of a sport, WTF. maybe it does not take as long to get a BB there, as it would in ITF; dont know for sure.

this question did occur once or twice. to clearify things once and for all, there ARE styles that do work against animals. some of you may know already http://www.pocketmovies.net/detail_91.html

shooting more fun than martial arts training? unbelieveable

2 years for a black belt is very short. there either are many super-dojos around u, that make very good TKDists in very short time or the schools standard is very low, so they give away black belts to anyone OR i am mistaken, and 2 years is ok for a black belt. but where i'm from, its 3-5 years, depending of how many belt tests u do and how much training u attend during a week.

good point, but they number of teeth was right nonetheless

uphill path? yeah, i didnt know why it should be wrong, what he plans. and it'll give me the chance to train with him in our freetime. that'll be got for the both of us. besides: everything is better than doint NO martial art
-
good martial arts training, staying away from dark alleys and not going out late at night alone probably is the better choice than to try to turn gay. besides i dont like firearms. i never had one in my hands, but i think they'd make me nervous. besides, here in germany firearms are something completely different than in texas.

good idea to do such a post, but it'll be forgotten when some others posts are done in this channel.

my friend plans to do some martial arts, but because of the lack of schools around, he has not such a big choice. he really sucks at many kinds of sports (bad cardio, rather weak, not too fast etc) so he plans to join a TKD school in order to get stronger, more flexible and everything, to later, when the choice might be bigger (in two or three years at university) switch to another style. does tkd really prepare for another style? i dont know what art he wants to do later on (and probably he himself doesnt either), but anyhow, tkd is a good workout. ur thoughts please, he asked me what i'd think about it and i didnt know what do say.

amazing
Icetuete replied to aznkarateboi's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
it probably would have been better for fighting if they had put the effort (and the steroids?) needed for the 540s into punching and kicking. if they dont care probably noone does. -
Most important muscles required for punches and kicks?
Icetuete replied to YoungGrasshopper's topic in Health and Fitness
if u want to get better at kicking, u'll have to do some kicking. same goes for punching. thats the best way to train the muscles that are involved in kicks/punches. a good way to do more powerful kicks is to kick a sandbag (or whatever u got at hand) for a short amount of time the powerful and the fast u can. -
TKD bashing?
Icetuete replied to NightShade_UK's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
yeah, but very often the stuff ones opinion is based on is rather questionable...! -
yeah - but 3,5 years already is the lower end. 3 to 5 years is normal at most tkd schools. there is this style in the U.S. army somewhere... never remember the name, but i heard it takes 40 years to master. anyone knows about that?

Krav Maga or Wing Chun?
Icetuete replied to Anzie's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
thats enough to learn the basics, but after yellow belt (or whatever the first test may be) u really should to more. but its also about training methods and/or instruction. -
