  1. so your going to move to okinawa, cool, who's stationing you there, is it for work or somthing? p.s it wouldnt just look good on your record training there, you'd also be learning from the best and become a much better fighter.
  2. 227 years old, wow! we've had wars that lasted longer than that! happy independance day from across the pond!
  3. I go to the gym twice a week (its a very good gym), I also do Trodai Karate, two 2 hour lessons a week. I have also just ordered a 5ft punch/kick bag. I'd like some exercises that I could do on the bag, although there probably aren't many!
  4. Do any experienced MAists have any good, hard, daily training and fitness exercises. I'd like to start one to improve fitness. For example x number of pressups, x number of minutes on the bag etc. Oh and plz dont keep posting links to websites, as helpful as it is I'd be interested to discuss what kind of training people do.
  5. Getting the entire dojo using bags for training is very expensive, you'd need alot if every ones going to train, unless you take turns on the bags but thats pretty poor if your going to do that all the time.
  6. Cimac, heavyweight gi, fantastic quality gi.
  7. I think if there was an answer saying "other" it would be the most popular!
  8. Guys I hear u saying "well karate was originally used for this or for that" remember this isnt just about karate, ancient arts like kung fu are going the same way, they too have lost the spiritual side. This discussion goes further than just one art, martial arts in general has lost somthing. What do you guys think about kung fu or juijistu for example? have they lost it?
  9. I think stocky fighters are better in a real fight and athletic in competition.
  10. I'm mean, nowadays in martial arts (i dont just mean karate) martial artists seem to have no discepline or honour, some do but most just learn how to defend themselves and maybe compete in a few tournments. It saddens me to this, when you compare it to hundreds of years ago when the samari were around, everything was about self enlightenment and honour, the traditions seems to have gone. I suppose its just because of the world we live in, people are different now....
  11. Has the spiritual side of karate or any martial art been lost nowadays, I mean is it all just self-defence and sport, what about self harmony and discepline. I just think some of the tradition of karate or any martial art has been lost somewhere.
  12. The colour white means purity and in karate its supposed to mean that your working towards the colour white, purity. Somthing like that anyway!
  13. I bet the director said that cuz Jet Li wouldn't go in his film lol.
  14. Guys you know that fight seen with that chinese guy in a white mandiran suit, u know when he fights keanu and then says "the only way to know a person is to fight them", well that guy was actually supposed to be Jet Li but the film couldn't afford him cuz he asked for somthing like 30 million. Just thought i'd say
  15. Well I think Karate is excellent in self defence, it also helps you to grow stronger and faster. Maybe its just becuase of the style I do, Trodai karate has a big focus on self defense.
  16. I need help with my spinning techniques (spinning backfist, spinning Roundhouse kick etc.) I'm having lots of problems. One problem is that in the spinning roundhouse kick i'm snapping the kick forward to late, like when i'm past the targets body and then carring on the spin. I'm also having troubles with the pivet its ok but could be better. Help me
  17. Just wondering anyone seen the matrix, gr8 film, cool fight scenes . Anyway, do you guys think that Keanu Reeves really knows Kung Fu, plus are computer graphics destoying the gr8 martial artsists like Bruce Lee, I mean the moves in that film were fantastic and most was just computer generated.

    Girls

Men are generally stronger than women, thats nature, males are more phsically adapt because of competion between males, the strongest male finds a mate etc. Now, yes some women are stronger than some men, i'm sure also if a female martial artist was attacked by a man she would be able to defend herself well. In semi contact women are just as good as men, and I personally think that women in kata are generally better than men too. To conclude this in martial arts men and women are pretty even.
  19. Why is having your belt on relevent, if its in the dojo they'd know what grade u were anyway and if they didn't you'd tell them. If its outside the dojo then why would you be wearing your belt? If they were attacking you or pushing you then you'd defend your self like any self defence situation white belt or not. Basically the question you've asked is WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOUR THREATEND BY SOMEONE. Martial arts should give you an answer to that
  20. Now I study Karate, ive never done a throwing art (but want to in the future) could you people help me out and explain to me how to perform some easily executed, but efficent throws, now I dont mind if you go in to detail, in fact that would be good, remember bare in mind I have never done a throwing art before . Thanks in advance
  21. Bruce Lee wasn't just an actor, he created his own style (JKD) which is taught globally how many other movie artists have done that! he also studied philosiphy and wrote many good books on his views. He believed that people should just be themselves, not false images (this idea was a large part of his philosohy). Also he was the greatest martial artist ever far, far better than people like Jean Claude Van Damme and even Jet Li, Jackie Chan or any other martial artist, Bruce Lee was the greatest, he is the greatest, nobody even compares to his skill, power or speed.
  22. Personally I dont think I could grab the blade with my hand, I wouldn't dare!
  23. I've actually been planning on buying a kick/punch bag, but these bags aren't like the heavy bags, they weight about 25 kilos whereas the heavy bags weight 300 pounds or somthing like that. Will a kick/punch bag still be effected because I can't really afford a heavy bag right now. One more thing, how often should I practise the slow motion roundhouse and for how long?
  24. But surely training for situations and having some tactic in your head is the best way to prepare for it if you were ever attacked. I have heard from so many people, mainly in these forums that reherseing and preparing for these situations is one of the best ways to prepare yourself when it actully happens.
  25. I think under the pressure and fear of an attack the first instinct would be a simple elbow strike to the solar plexus, its justs seems the first thing that would come into my head, but I've never been in the situation so I wouldn't be able to say. For the second guy, it'll probably be a couple of reverse punches to the head before I run .
