Help with the Triangle
SevenStar replied to Scorcho's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
exactly. However, royce showed me a variation of the triangle that works if your leg is down their back. instead of applying downward pressure, squeeze inward and you can still choke them. -

I know that was kind of general, but I don't train in WT or WC. A good friend of mine does though - I'll get him to give more specific answers. -

internal style. very linear, very powerful. It's based on the 5 elements. focus is on hand strikes, however, it does have kicks. There's no school for that in VA, is there? If there is one near you, definitely check it out. -
yoshida beat royce (controversially), but he's not the gracie killer. wallid ismail is.

blanks is actually very skilled. That said, he would still get killed as he has not grappling experience.

look up genki sudo.

in the grand scheme of things, does it matter? If I can hold my own in a fight, I really don't NEED to be a master. As long as I have a solid foundation and obvious understanding of what I do, mastering a single style in itself is not a necessity. That said, most MA will indeed be a master of something - not a style necessarily, but a technique. they have that one technique that they can perform from any angle, off any feed, etc.

This is not a biblical teaching, Sevenstar. You will not find it in the bible. I suggest everyone to read the article on Christians in the Martial Arts in the article section to get just one perspective on this subject. Sorry, couldn't help the plug. Heheh. Never said that it was. Does not mean it doesn't hold true. Those who help themselves and have faith in Him are helped by Him. Look at job, barak, Noah - the list goes on. They believed in God, helped themselves by following his word and were blessed in the end. When I think about it, barak is a bad example. Even though he won the war, deborah and another woman were given the credit, as barak would not go unless deborah also went. deborah told him that she would go, but that if she did, God would deliver the enemy into the hands of a woman. So, he had faith in God and in deborah, but moreso in deborah. He only piggy backed off of her faith.

1. We know that God helps those that help themselves. 2. We know that the bible says "Iron sharpens Iron" In reference to the way men treat/raise, etc. each other. 3. We know that our God is not a God of peace. He is a God of compliance. He wants us to do as He says, and to follow His law. He has destroyed nations that have not complied. He obviously has no problem with battle, if it's justified. Where things start to get hairy is when you involve eastern concepts. For starters, many people think ki/chi/prana/punap, etc. is some mystical force that's called upon. Naturally, that is seen as demonic. Next, there's the issue of calling someone "master". The only master one should have and serve is God. In addition, some styles, like ninjutsu, do deal with things that are quite unchristian. The 9 hand signs for example, if I understand them right. As a side note, My church recently asked me to implement a kickboxing and/or judo class.

I'm guessing that he put them there as a tie for 2nd - he's not saying they're the same thing.

Kung Fu Legends
SevenStar replied to cymry's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
naturally, the 8 immortals thing is a myth - there are several legends of the origin of drunken style though. There is also the one that states a monk was kicked out of the monestary and returned while drunk, killing over 30 monks. When he sobered up, he recalled what he had done and honed his skill. As a side note, drunken isn't taught as a style itself, typically - it's a subsystem found in longfist schools. -

-don't strike in a set rhythm or pattern -control the distance to make him fight your fight -remember your footwork -use punches to set up your roundhouse kicks. the roundhouse is pulled of more effectively when your opponent is on the defensive. -keep your head moving - this aids in breaking his rhythm

The Gracie
SevenStar replied to shotokanwarrior's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
actually, tenshinhan's fighting style is awesome. His master was tsurusennin (the crane master) his master is the long time enemy of kamesennin (son gokou's teacher) which is part of why tenshinhan originally doesn't like son gokou. Tenshinhan was one of the strongest humans and is the only human to best gokou in a fight. his taiyoken and multi form techniques were later adopted by other characters and his kiko hou was one of the most powerful attacks seen in the saiya-jin saga. His shin kiko hou is also quite powerful - definitely more powerful than krillin's kien zan. -

kinda... that depends on the school. My school does happen to train self defense techniques also. Naturally, they are grappling based. It's required in the curriculum and is covered in the beginner classes. half the class is geared toward self defense, the otehr toward basic bjj. Once you progress past the basic class, you are still allowed to attend it (and most of us do) so you continue to train self defense techniques. -

SevenStar replied to Ozaru's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
as a lefty, I don't think it goes that deep. Not in regards to a strategy that needs to be used. Also, based on that, you can't really devise a strategy. Kotegashi pointed out keeping your foot on the outside of theirs, which is correct. The more technical stuff (since KG mentioned it) was touched on earlier, as far as circling into his power hand and such, but then tapered down into "I can fight both ways, so it doesn't matter" kind of thing... -

one of the legends of drunken kung fu is stemmed from 8 immortals. I've heard the legend you are referring to, retsu, but can't think of it off of the top of my head. -
