  1. eh...not EVERYONE can do strength training every day. I actually advise against that. There's too much possibility for overtraining and injury. As for soreness...it really just depends on what you're doing. I'm sore a lot after grappling. Personally, I feel if you're not sore, you didn't have a good workout, but that is not universally true. Just make sure you're stretching and your diet is good.
  2. I've shopped around a bit...mine was in my price range at the time, and I don't think I could've picked a better school.
  3. I've needed surgery for a broken toe...go to a doctor.
  4. Ummm...I'm not getting what you're saying if you're standing up and he's behind you. An arm triangle? Or do you mean a rear naked choke? Go to https://www.bjj.org and give us a pic, please.
  5. I think that's whee the myth in the US started...there is some fact to that, although I'm not sure how much.
  6. In any legal situation, you have to prove that you used "reasonable force." For martial artists, you have to prove that you HAD to use whatever you did use in order to escape. That's the law. There is no registering of any kind for anybody.
  7. Personally, a good rule of thumb is to establish your position, then either submit or move to a better one. The thing is, no matter what you do, you're going to give your opponent an opening. Don't make STUPID mistakes, but remember: nothing ventured, nothing gained.
  8. Yes, that is correct. You cannot bulk and cut at the same time.
  9. Like previously stated, its knowing when to employ it. THe nature of combat is different outside of a boxing ring, so you have to adapt to different situations. The same applies to all martial arts techniques.
  10. If you can't find something, check bodybuilding.com. I don't think they're is anything they don't have. I haven't taken a close look at what you've got, cuz I just wokeup. I'll look closer in a bit.
  11. Gotcha...I was just like "Wushu...that was random..."
  12. Hey guys, As much as I roll, and as much as I rave about BJJ...I've never actually rolled with other BJJ practitioners (my instructor is a judoka, but specializes in ne waza). It was quite an experience...the guy I rolled with tonight was very fluid. I know that my stand up game overmatched him a bit, but he had a slight edge on the ground. He was impressed by my defense, but I just could not manage much offensively. Some of it was due to my ATROCIOUS cardio, and part of it was his uncanny knack for positioning...even when I was in a dominant position, he knew exactly how to keep me from accomplishing anything. At any rate, I had a blast. Hoping to do more of this in the future.
  13. LMAO...nice. Squats will do it. Any thing with a "back kick" motion as well. That will build up the glutes. To tone, really, just cardio. There's no way to "spot reduce" and tone up a single body part. You've got to diet and do cardio.
  14. Am I the only one that doesn't understand the wushu references in this thread?
  15. Flyers at local schools, mostly elementaries. I'm also a substitute teacher. Since the kids mostly think I'm pretty cool, they also tend to be more interested in what I do. I snag a few in by just letting them in on my hobbies.
  16. God only knows, I've been doing martial arts for over 14 years now, and if I tried a flip I'd end up in the trauma unit at the nearest hospital.
  17. The gracie's were the first to coin the phrase Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Anything else than Gracie Jiu Jitsu is an offshoot.
  18. That's not the point. The point is to be ABLE to do something like that, its quite cool
  19. Welcome! What is it you study?
  20. Eh, you won't really notice it. It gives you a nice energy boost, and you do look bigger.
  21. I didn't notice any when I took em. Studies have been done for toxicity due to overdose, but I believe they proved that there are no toxicity problems. However, I'm not 100% sure on those kinds of stats. All I do know is that it worked for me at the reccomended dosage.
  22. Put your hips just above the elbow (on the side nearest to their shoulder). Squeeze your knees together and bridge.
  23. Dude, sign me up for house-brick-jutsu
  24. I'd say beginning. Just seems like you'd be less likely to hurt yourself
