  1. High protein, low fat, low carb. Lots of it...I mean a ton. You have to eat big to get big, as the bodybuilders say. As for what to do for lifts: Bench press, Squats, and Deadlifts are the big three, but any compound movement is good.
  2. Heh...now I wanna try the fly and the cannon thing. I just pictured this episode from "Night Court" where a member of the CIA was in the courtroom and was shooting a mosquito...I miss that show.
  3. Believe me, you're not going to be built like a bodybuilder unless you REALLY freakin try for a build like them. Don't worry about too much mass, just work out.
  4. It's actually very hard to attack the groinal area when you're in the guard.
  5. Steroids cause that, but that's about it (not even the fabled yellow #5 in Mountain Dew has that effect). Have no fear.
  6. http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=316377 Check out that url...fantastic resource full of great information about working out
  7. exrx.net Great site, has LOTS of full motion clips of exercises. forum.bodybuilding.com check out their stickys on routines.
  8. Eh, that's a mutated version of the story. Kano took out the potentially disastrous techniques (eye gouging, etc...) because you couldn't practice them full power. However, the techniques he kept and developed all COULD be practiced full power...in effect, he made the art more deadly because it wasn't theoretical anymore...his students had been applying the techniques exactly how they would in a real fight. As for how BJJ got to brazil...long story short, a good Judo student did some traveling and got down to Brazil. while he was down there, he taught the gracies some stuff, they took it and ran.
  9. Kermit was always my favorite renaissance artist...I was so mad they didn't name a ninja turtle after him.
  10. If you want to CONCENTRATE on the ground, then go BJJ. Otherwise, there's virtually no difference in ground techniques, while Judo has all the throws. However, sometimes you'll find a really good school of either one that will have a nice mix.
  11. heh, I get hungrier when I'm workin out.
  12. They're really two different styles. Judo evolved from traditional jiu jitsu, while BJJ evolved from Judo...same roots, but BJJ concentrated WAY more on grappling, while TJJ tries to be more complete, I guess you could say.
  13. Its not a bad thing if that's what you're looking for. Tournament competition and effective self defense are two completely different things.
  14. My style has: white yellow orange green purple blue red black
  15. If you do deadlifts CORRECTLY they are a core exercise that is valuable to adding mass.
  16. I don't understand why people are afraid of gaining muscle mass. You don't want to add fat do you? It's one or the other. Personally, I wouldn't go with weight gaining powder unless you're working out a LOT...that stuff turns into massive amounts of fat even IF you're working out. It's designed for people on a bulking phase of their workout. Eat 5-6 meals a day, and go with bigger portions...make sure its high calorie stuff, just low in fat (yes, it does exist).
  17. Eh, having a 100 lbs, 5' tall teenage girl do it to you is pretty humbling to.
  18. I've never seen amnesia. One guy was in a rear naked choke that wasn't locked in good, so he decided to be "funny" and make fun of the guy applying the choke. This made the choker frustrated, and he clinched down more...and snap, he's unconscious mid sentence. Rick then woke up and finished his sentence...then wondered how the heck we all got in front of him when he "blinked"...he had no clue he had been choked out.
  19. I still stand by talking people down. Slapping the biggest guy can get you in just as much trouble.
  20. Find a graphics program. Paint Shop Pro is what I use...but you can get away with MS Paint, I would think.
  21. Simple carbs give you a quick boost of energy, and what isnt' used turns directly to fat for energy to be stored. Simple carbs = sugar. Chocolate and sweets are bad. However, I still have the occasional Krispy Kreme.
  22. Any of the Gracie BJJ books are fantastic. Full color photos, and LOTS of them. Good descriptions too. Jean Jaques Machado has one book in that series too, called Black Belt Jiu Jitsu...great read as well.
