  1. I got a six...romantic. While it is somewhat accurate, I feel I'm more of the performer. But hey, that's a self analysis.
  2. Big bump on that...I just don't believe in saying one art "sucks." EVERY art has SOMETHING to offer in a self defense situation...some handle it better than others, but every art has a unique and effective way of handling these situations.
  3. I subscribe to a bodybuilding forum, and some guy started a topic on what was better: kickboxing or jiu jitsu. Of course, it turned into a big flame war...but I tried to be the voice of reason, and then I got flamed. People saying that Judo and Jiu Jitsu wouldn't work in a real fight...oy veh. I'd like to see one of them meet up with a practitioner of either art.
  4. Just saw it...I think they should sentence him to five minutes with every member of this forum.
  5. I agree, once it's locked...I mean, there's a REASON its called a LOCK.
  6. Where did you get the finances to start your first dojo? Were there any grants/loans involved? If so, how did you apply for them? Thanks guys!
  7. Anything can be countered...as long as you catch it before it's LOCKED. Once the hold is locked in (any hold), it becomes extremely difficult/impossible to counter.
  8. I'd have to say go for BJJ first...most people are more comfortable on their feet, which makes groundfighting more difficult to catch on to...not that stand up fighting is EASY, but there's a comfort zone that you have to get over with BJJ, and that takes more time.
  9. Wow, I have no idea...but if anyone DOES have any information, I would love to pass it on to my students as well!
  10. Glad we could help out! I love BJJ...glad to see you found a good school with a good atmosphere.
  11. Backfist/reverse punch is practically my best combo...set it up with a side kick, and whoa mama!
  12. Rear naked choke! Seriously, if you're at school, talk to a teacher or some administrator...fighitng really doesn't solve anything...neither does choking someone out, as much as I'd like it to.
  13. Flint Michigan here...michigan weather SUX!!!
  14. Good job man...I know that its not easy to talk people down. I've had to swallow my pride a couple of times to get out of a fight. I'm not afraid to fight, but its just not the right thing to do.
  15. Make sure that you're locking your leg on the correct side. If their left arm is through, your left leg (opposite side) should be around their neck, and figure-foured underneath their left arm. Pull their arm around in front of their neck as well; this gives them less space to breathe. Then, pull down on their heads. Hope this makes sense...my triangle chokes were not working mainly due to me not putting their arms around their necks.
  16. Heck, I've thrown myself so many times I'm a freakin human highlight reel...of bloopers.
  17. You know, I'm AM a wrestling fan, but why on earth someone had to post a WWE pic on here is beyond me. *sigh*
  18. Some parts of detroit were out for a couple of days...my city (Flint) never lost power, but we couldn't drink our water because its filtered in detroit...*sigh*
  19. I can't say that I like the taste of red bull, but for me, that stuff WORKS! I had one once, and I was wired for the entire day.
  20. *LMAO* Yup, nothin gets me goin like Lovin You...hehehehe
  21. With me, the instant I tell people that I practice a modern "American" art, its instantly less effective than practically everything else...heh...
  22. If memory serves, ju jutsu is the proper spelling...I don't remember exactly where the spelling changes came from.
  23. My night Thursday wasn't HORRIBLE...but a friend of mine(who is also an orange belt) managed to get me in a standing front headlock, which I decided to try to get out of with a takedown. While that's all fine and dandy, I certainly picked the wrong takedown, cuz I ended up getting swept, which resulted in 240 lbs. of Tony landing on my neck...hoo boy. Yes, I've made much smarter decisions.
  24. Ah...honestly, one of my favorite series of movies. How can you not like them? Elizabeth Shue, Mr. Myagi, and the MUSIC! "You're the best around! Nothin's gonna ever keep ya down!" Or something like that...
  25. Overly muscular guys suck...I HATE grappling them...and God only knows beating the crap out of em isn't easy either. Thank God that most of em are slow.
