  1. Thx so much for your help, i live in NSW so I guess it might be different i have to check
  2. That's exactly what I do except for cardio after, I just do some stretching and go home
  3. Totally agree with you, Cardio is my start point every session in the gym and I am trying to balance the rest of muscles throughout the week
  4. I usually do 1 karate class weekly (for work circumstances) and 2 days in the gym. In addition to some push ups, crunches & squats nearly every night at home (except for training nights). It's working al-right for me specially with full time work from 8 am to 8 pm !!!
  5. It's different in our dojo ... we say Osu yes, Hi , I got it, Bye, See you, ... but not for No
  6. Cardio is always essential but what sort of joint strengthening exercises ? can you tell me any ?!
  7. Good point Zaine and totally agree with you, I am balancing my training in the Gym but my question was which muscle group is important for my karate practice and as I got from your reply was SHOULDERS !
  8. I like this as it does make use of descriptions and translations and so on that I've come across or read or had explained to me over the years! Its origin is not to be found in the home of Karate (Okinawa blah, blah..) true, that single point comes up each and every time, what also comes up every time is the military and/or docks connection and origin. The Kyokushin connection is mainly due to Sosai use of it in his training and teaching of Karate. The connection here is WWII, Sosai famously said in a television interview, "Itsumitemo Haran Banjyo" (Nihon Television), Osu is common in MA, in as well as outside Japan, but even so it is still considered by some to be 'guttural' (harsh) less than perfect respect, and in Okinowa its association with the underworld persists even to this day!
  9. Hello guys, just wanna know your opinion which muscle group you concentrate on more while training in the gym ?! arms, chest, back ...etc Which group is most important and why ?!!
  10. I hear you Safroot, ours is the same. I'm training myself to say it instead of 'yes' at the dojo, because it seems like the right response there, so I can definitely see saying it in the wrong place accidentally, lol. You will find it hard at the beginning but then you won't be able to stop it
  11. In my kyokushin Dojo we say OSU for nearly everything ... hi, thank you , OK , got it , ...... I love it and sometimes I use it with trainers in my local gym and they couldn't understand it feels funny but I got used to say it all the time
  12. Congrats .... really well deserved
  13. Congratulations Hawkmoon ... So happy for you & well done
  14. First of all, welcome to KF; glad that you're here!! Self-defense can be taught, and is taught throughout the world, and in that, learning the basics and then some can be enough to sustain the methodologies of self-defense. Then, learning how to put all of the individual techniques to use when called upon during defending oneself, that's the experience...that's the journey of a MAist. Solid post and good point Sesie8 as usual
  15. Very nice article .... Thanks for sharing it with us
  16. I guess it relies mainly on the school and the Sensei .... some would accept same grade from other same style schools and others won't
  17. I am not sure if this would be easier ?! for me it would be the HELL
  18. Good idea ... I will try it for sure
  19. Thanks so much for the encourasging comment and the graphs ... I totally agree with you and I won't let it get me down
  20. Thanks for precious advice
  21. That's what I exactly did in today's class
