Just got my green belt 6th Kyu
Harkon72 replied to chrisw08's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
Congratulations! Our styles are similar and we now have the same grade! Osu! -
Our style is called Shukokai, but it is based on Shito Ryu - it's our Perent Style.

For me a Tate Zuki to the solar plexus, with power. If you make it right, they are going down!

What we must realize is that everyone is different. Different strengths and weaknesses, we are human after all.

Jiu-Jitsu for multiple atackers
Harkon72 replied to DWx's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
You would be surprised how many martial artists don't know the best way to strike, especially bare handed. Please train your strikes on heavy bags and maybe boards and strike shields; don't think, feel. -
DQ, I think you are right, I smell a courtesy throw here, a minor joint manipulation like this one would do some damage to the wrist if it was done with no co-operation.

As I have said before, Kata is the Soul of Karate, it's techniques are the fabric of your style; it is what defines it, the Bunkai is where the style lies.

Do Black-Belts have to register themselves as weapons
Harkon72 replied to chiflow's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
The law for self defense is the same for every one, regardless of any training; sufficient force to prevent injury or death to your self or others. It's a simple as that. You don't need registration to opt out or in to any law, it sees no difference. -

No, Never, this is a Myth at best, Bovine Waste at worst. -
I know of two Kenpo styles, Korean Kenpo and Ed Parker's American Kenpo, I have never seen it practiced here in the UK so I have little first hand knowledge of it.

This is why I favor Cord over Chain, you can have the cord any length you want!

(BBC) Hands are made for punching
Harkon72 replied to JusticeZero's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Very interesting, I found this article a good read too... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-19290320 -
Here in Wales we celebrate Yule more than Christmas, we gift eachother things but a day or two before the 25th. Is anyone making a Martial Arts themed gift this Holiday? Suits? Boards? Gloves? Swords? Fight Tickets? or Grading fee Vouchers? I bought my Wife a Gi on her Birthday, we bought ourselves a set of focus mitts last month too. I've bought her a Kata book as a stocking filler this year. I'm buying a Martial Arts themed children's activity set for my Sensei's little ones and a copy of "The Way of the Warrior" for the man himself. Will anyone else gift some inspiration this year?

I used to do a box stretch about twelve years ago, now I feel a horse stance dynamic program for hips and groin can be more productive at my age.

Kunichi Wa! Welcome to this Forum, it's great! I study Shito Ryu too, also Shukokai Karate and Shorin Ryu Kobudo. Croeso! Osu!

How has mma effected your dojo/business?
Harkon72 replied to Himokiri Karate's topic in Instructors and School Owners
MMA has added students to our group because our competitors are flirting with training for the cage and leaving behind traditional Karate. We are a modern Dojo, but we train in real undiluted Karatedo. For people that still value this we are the best option. -
I'm not naturally flexible either, flexibility has its advantages, but being too supple can be bad for you, I know of one Yoga instructor with serious back problems because her ligaments were too loose and that she sacrificed strength for flexibility.

This is true, the outcome of a story always depends on the story teller

I train every other day in Karate, I do Qi Gong every morning, I train with my Sensei once a week. I try and have at least two runs every week, if the weather is bad, I use my rowing machine for 20 minutes a time.

I haven't entertained the idea of Cyber Training, never thought about it really. Maybe I'm a bit old fashioned. Having a mobile phone in case of an emergency is something I do when I'm running; but being GPS tracked is beyond me I'm afraid. Maybe I need a push into the 21st century.

I'm sorry DQ, what do you mean by the punches not being "Full"?
