  1. This is the best Shukokai Karate Video I have seen on the internet, what do you think guys? We don't all train like this, but I was impressed.
  2. I live in Wales, I studied Shotokan for a few years. It was good training. I hope you enjoy the forum and feel free top ask anything that comes to mind. Hello and welcome, Osu!
  3. Thanks Guys, I'll keep you posted.
  4. Knee injuries are very common in Martial arts, hips are a close second.
  5. I have a goal, I want to run a local mountain range in a day. The run starts from my house, then two and a half miles uphill to Nasareth, a local village. Then eight miles along a ridge that finishes at Rhyd Ddu, at the foot of Snowdon. Then back down the valley for six miles to my house again. The highest point is about 2,000 feet; my house is 250 feet above sea level. It will take 6 months for me to train for it. I plan to do it in 5 hours. I have a Mentor, Mick was a Para PTI, he will plan the rout and meet me at a few check points along the way. I start my training in January. Does anyone think this is possible?
  6. I would take a training Holiday in Russia, in a Sombo training school.
  7. I agree, the Beginners are always the ones to watch out for in contact. They can hurt you if you are not careful. I always remember being lifted off the floor by my neck after showing a green belt a naked strangle! Be careful out there guys!
  8. I know the sting of a mis-timed nunchaku very well. It's a good tool to learn patience and control.
  9. I have told my Sensei about my serious self defense situations, we review and learn from them.
  10. I trained with a former Women's World Champion, I've got the scars to prove it. I spar with my wife, she is smaller but she can still hurt me. She knows I have the control to train safely with her, gender is no issue.
  11. Flexibility is not the be-all and end-all of martial arts. Use the tools you are given. We can't all hold our knee against our ear like a Shaolin, some Grapplers have a different tendon flexibility to say high kicking Korean Stylists, Kravists and Judoka have a different fitness to Krateka and Muay Thai fighters. Within each and all styles we are all individuals; reaching a full box split is a legitimate goal, but not what Budo for me at least is about.
  12. Jui Kumite is your fighting style; it's the way you apply what you have been taught. You Kata and Kihon come together in your free fighting, it should not be separate. There is no prouder instructor than he who is caught in free fighting by a student using the Bunkai from his style's Kata.
  13. With regards to Danger; some shy from it, some seek it. The brave feel fear yet face it, the wise are not to be confused for cowards. Some are unaware of Danger, ego may blind others to it. I tend to walk away, but if my loved ones were in Danger, I would fear for my soul.
  14. Mine are Simple: 1: A 3rd Kyu by Christmas next year. 2: To pass my Summer Exam at University. 3: To go down a waist size. 4: To Run the Nantlle Ridge in a Day. 5: To stay healthy in Mind, Body and Spirit.
  15. A Happy and Joyful Yuletide to everyone! And a Productive and Bountiful New Year!
  16. I know people who earn respect, I know people that demand it, I know people that never receive it no matter how hard they work. I will never ask for it or look for any approval. Many don't deserve it, but who are we to judge? I believe each man with honor and respect is a King, but some Kings have neither.
  17. 2013 for me: 1, Go down a waist size. 2, Gain my 3rd Kyu by 2014 3, Run from Nasareth to Rhyd Ddu, ie. 15k along the Nantlle Ridge in a day.
  18. I agree with Master Pain, it's all about integrity. I also think 3 years old is too young to start martial arts. How much are you paying for a martial arts themed play group?
  19. I wear a 12oz Gi, that's as heavy as is comfortable. I took 8 years to get my Black Belt BTW.
  20. Congrats to the Winners! A good competition indeed!
  21. Welcome! Osu!
  22. I prefer traditional Okinawan Nunchaku, octagonal, 12" Cord. They feel authentic, they're fast and sting like hell if you mess up!
  23. Karate mitts, Cup and Mouth Guard.
  24. I still think my Magnums are hard to beat in the Street!
  25. I put on a White belt twelve months ago, best feeling ever!
