  2. I'm a security officer... I'm doing mostly loss prevention at the moment. I would like to stay in the security business... and maybe open a dojang one day on the side and if it works well...full time ...

  5. Not if you do what's required for example in Canada. freeze the fresh fish 5-10 days and defrost in fridge. It won't change much and you don't have to cook it...you can eat it raw. All the bacterials etc will be dead.
  6. We have so many breaks in hapkido. Just did 2 boards (no space) knuckle punch and jump duit chagi (jump back kick) 1 board recently. The hammer fist is SERIOUSLY.....one of the easiest... Don't worry at all. You will break it like butter....Just think of hitting something at least a foot behind it....NEVER stop, try to hit what's behind. It's all in your mind. (that's why kids don't succeed sometime, they think too much and stop by fear of getting hurt and get hurt lol). How thick are the boards? We use 1 inch thick board
  7. oh man, it happens to all of us. We all feel your pain. For me, (with two young kids)....sometime I don't get enough sleep and I'm tired of my day at work etc...so my concentration's bad...... and oh man do I get in trouble.... Even spank behind the head. I think, it's still better to go and do our best even if we fail at some point. Cause not going won't be better.... You will still gain by going at some point. Maybe far as good as usual but....It's still one more day of practice to add to your belt. Keep it up. This January I got surgery and had to stop for a month. I came back as soon as the doctor said it was safe and did little by little, as much as I could. I was so mad not to be able to jump, fall, fight, roll etc but still I was learning, trying and doing my best. That's the point.... If your tired, injured etc do what you can...it will still be better than nothing.
  8. Did you check Hapkido ? cuz you have all the taekwondo moves + joint locks, throws, sweep, pressure points, ground fighting, weapons etc... there's a good school in Michigan with GM Hee Kwan Lee (in Battle Creek). I was there not long ago for the 2012 world martial arts championship. Anyway, just letting you know. He's 9th degree black belt..... a Grandmaster. Good friend with my master.

  10. Ninjato straight sword is kinda of an unknown subject....Some say it's kinda new some don't.... Mostly, ninjas used katana cause they were most of the time (samurai) working as an assassin on the side etc... Some say the original ninjato came from the fact that sometime they needed a quick, wastable weapon so they would forged a cheap piece of metal into a blade. The curve was not easy to make so they made it straight and sharp. I've studied ninjutsu and worked on the subject for many years now.
  11. I agree.... Wish we saw more... What's going to happen when Hapkido and Karate will get in.. Cause they should be in soon as per what they're saying.
  12. Welcome with us I'm practicing Hapkido too

  14. oh god..i failed some belt exams too lol just tell yourself...is it better to get it and not deserve it? We want to be proud of it for sure.... Not less Keep up the good work.
  15. You should...mostly with kids...they aim bad and they hit low so.... DAAAH!? Also...a snap punch hurts more than a straight one ....trust me! Like many says...if your teacher say not to wear it..it's because he will not be the one getting hit lol...

  17. bad idea... cause like all masters will say...Bad base, bad martial arts. No offense to home training but.... Even some masters can't show the basic stance and moves well.. I've trained in many styles before and they never told me, my stance was wrong, my wrist not straight enough etc... These simple little things mostly when you learn alone and can't see them by yourselves are a huge factor. My teacher always says.... Martial art is like a tree. You start by learning the roots and build the trunk....After you learn technics to create some branches in leaves.... But without some good roots and trunk...your tree will die. So you have to always train your basic moves and stances. So what i'm saying here is... a good master, teacher etc will correct those little things and make you start the right way. Soooooooo much better in the long term trust me (still paying for that myself). Hope it helped.
  18. Korean Hapkido (some are different for some schools but mostly similar) 1st dan - Jokionim 2nd dan - Kiosanim 3rd dan - Busabomnim 4-5-6th dan - Sabomnim 7-8-9th dan - Kwan Jang nim 10th dan founder - Chong Kwan Jang nim ......or......Do joo nim But as much as title is respect. My master's a 9th dan and a 10th dan founder and we still call him (master) or Kwan jang nim. I think. as long as you show great respect. it's fine.
  19. As often as i can...I even stretch at work during my breaks (im often alone so i don't look like an idiot lol). I try to mix static and dynamic stretch. I lost a lot of my flexibility and need to get it back. BUT it's not because you can do the split..that you can kick that good. flexibility in kicks is a lot different...BUT it sure helps to be able to do the split. I learn something a long time ago... The leg that needs to be more flexible is not the one that goes up....it's the supporting leg.
  20. i think it all depends of the schools and how many technics there is. We have more than 3800 technics in Hoshinkido. So we have 13 belts But must remember that all the old masters will say.... It all started with ONE WHITE BELT.... Training hard outside made it turn dark (black)....That's how they made the difference between a new student and an advanced one
  21. congrats! This belt will kick butt
  22. I study Hoshinkido Hapkido and learning the jang bong forms. You use a bo (bong) usualy about your size or a bit taller.
  23. If you want to see good escrima stuff.. (KALI sticks) Check out the world champion : Mariah Moore. The Eskrimadora. She's pretty known. Youtube, websites etc.. I've seen her live at the 2012 world martial championship. Couple weeks ago http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/s720x720/319606_10150280744823344_1001903178_n.jpg
  24. cane is a very good weapon. We learn how to use it in Hapkido. an umbrella with a hook handle can do the trick too. legal and doesn't look like a weapon. BUT IT HURTS!!! choke move, groin, leg pull, leg sweep, many hits.... and sleeves throwing (cool move by the way)....
