Board Breaking is about Technique, not the Board
shinka replied to bushido_man96's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
We breaks board on each belt exam...from 1 to 3 boards depending. We use 1 inch thick pine board. Board don't hit back...lol true The most frequent reason on the used of board breaking is mostly mental. Fight your fear.... If you're scared and stop..OUCH!!! cause we all know that it's not that hard to break. It's all in the mind and to hit the center of it lol. As per technical view of it.... They say that 1 inch thick board equal to a human rib... Some use this as a goal or point of view. -
would you use any of this tehcniques in real scenarios
shinka replied to judobrah's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I think I would go for the quickest way to save myself.... Easier the better in these situations... Low kicks are amazing and very painful (shins hurts bad)and not many people are expecting it. head kick...not sure. All depends on the situation and the attacker's position. Let's say I hit him with low kick and he bends down...A drop kick would end the fight for sure lol.... but still, all depends. -
they were mostly used as a defense weapon.... anyway

Well 5 years is a long time..Depending what style you're doing. You will lose a lot of technics etc in 5 years. Do I think you lose your title of black belt after 5 years...maybe not but I think you would need to train hard to show that you still deserve to wear it. If not...It would be unfair for the others. In a way...the belt is showing what level (rank) you are. If you're not able to do the things well..... It doesn't look super good.

Bruce Lee's Wing Chun
shinka replied to sensei8's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Yes great kick... Bruce Lee learn that kick from ji han jae (hapkido). Bruce Lee took and learned from many great masters to become such a great human weapon. -
Well I think that we all can decide for ourselves... Most of female mma fighters know what they're doing... male vs female ...not sure.. Unless special fight and very good female fighter with same weight etc... Like Gina Carano could take on many guys lol.... Anyway, it's a complicated subject

shinka replied to FangPwnsAll7's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
like many said...it's a very similar martial arts...I don't see the point and you will probably get confused... I did many style myself but I've switch from japanese style to korean style. You don't get confused at all.... Well sometime you go ichi ni san instead of hana dul set but that's mostly all lol Anyway, It's my opinion -

Pressure Points, Dim Mak, and more...
shinka replied to darksoul's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Some people do resist more to pressure point...to a limit. Some can block blood flow to your brain...even if you're strong....Asleep you will be in 10 seconds. STILL...for most it's for pure pain and some can resist them better than others. In Hapkido we use pressure points mostly to distract the opponant... We stryke hard on it, to create pain...to open his hands for an example etc... It's rarely a single technic. It's 99.9999% followed with a major stryke or take down. Regarding Dim Mak....I'm not sure. Never saw it for real so can't talk much about it but..... our body is full of energy and this flow of energy can create spectacular power and if we block that flow....it can be very dangerous. Some of these energy flow are used in acupuncture etc... so they are real but to what level.... That I don't know -
lol hope you'll be all fine... We have cartilage in the nose...the sound could just be that it was crushed a little. I have two daughters and god...they have so much power in such a little frame lol.... They are the perfect weapon...they can hit us hard and we can't fight back lol..... Accident happens.....It's the joy and life of a dad Oh and....the winner is...... your 3 y.o lol. You lose..... Please give all your belts and ranks to your child ..... starting now. lol Take care

Junior Black Belt?
shinka replied to Excoastie's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Well for us.... in Hoshinkido. We have junior belts...all the way to junior black belts (16 y.o and under).... They aren't close to a normal black belt and as soon as the student become 16 years of age... He or she drops 3 belts to equals the normal rank with the ammount of technic required for a regular adult belt. I think it's normal and pretty fair. That way, kids can enjoy getting up the ranks and get a junior blk belt and be proud but at some point with maturity...they understand they need to learn more to achieve whats missing and learn another black belt....a "real" black belt this time.... It's an honor in a way to get two. The point is.....a junior black belt doesn't equals a regular black belt...NO The ammount of technics required, size, strenght etc....are all ovious factors. -
It's complicated... Like many said before me... He's not a black belt on paper, record and lineage in history. To open a school could be hard cause people want some backgrounds... BUT...If he would be bad in his art i wouldn't give him the belt but since he won many matches and look like he gots good technics that can compete with other black belts..Well in some ways maybe he deserve it... At first....A black belt was a white belt who workd hard and studied for a long time...so since he did that in a way...... Well, you get my point.
-
I'm sure it did .... Works fine for me.... For this fall, most common mistake is not keeping your chin close to your chest...They ALL hit their heads on the mat. lol
-
in Hapkido, we have lots of falls...Most of our technics goes on the ground so...we fall a lot. Each fall have 3 steps... Example: back fall... steps for new students.... 1st - sitting leg straight, arm crossed on chest, fall on back and slap the mat. 2nd- crouching position, arm crossed on chest, same thing after... 3rd - Standing etc... We go like this for all of them... Until they feel good and safe with the regular standing fall.

I'm very very late but...Good article. Amazing self control. Good job

Many students wears them... It's fine. Just need to remove them before doing jump falls, rolls or close combat.
