aikido a grappling art?
TJS replied to Goju_boi's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
You have to remember the majority of martial arts dont have any ground fighting techniqes..especially up until a few years ago. Im sure many instructors would tell you something like "dont end up there" -
ways to beat someone bigger
TJS replied to Maddwraph's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
make them work and wear them out while conserving your energy. Usually bigger people will gas faster as a rule of thumb...just kind of play with them but always keep an eye out for an opening...I like taking the back of larger guys...try an arm drag if they are in your gaurd. ankle locks work well against people of all sizes...especially if your on top. -

yea If you leave the kick out there it will get grabed..so be prepared for that. blocking and shooting immediently after a kick also isint uncommon. -
aikido a grappling art?
TJS replied to Goju_boi's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I have never seen any escapes or reversals as far as ground techniques go. -
I could name 20 non gracie BJJ practicioners of the top of my head that have over a 50% win ratio...BJ Penn...Nogiera...Mir...Arona...any of those top ranked world class BJJ fighters ring a bell? most of those guys proabably have over a 90% win ratio...check your facts. what traditonal karate techniqus have emerged in mma?

aikido a grappling art?
TJS replied to Goju_boi's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
sure, grappling dosent have to take place on the ground. various throws, certain locks or chokes, tie up etc are all standing techniques -
I have to admit I have only seen the highlights and read the reviews of the fight but my understanding was St pierre spend all or most of the fight in the top position raining down ground and pound. but yes Karo did have some good kimura attampts. Karo is an awsome fighter but i think he runs into trouble when he meets someone he cant physically muscle over.

Undisputed World Champion of MMA
TJS replied to Cross_Trainer's topic in Pro Fighting Matches and Leagues
yes If someone held a belt in UFC and pride the would proabably be ranked #1 by most accounts. -
St pierre Dominated Karo with his "OK" jiu jitsu skills. st pierres Wrestling an jiu jitsu is top notch and he did extremly well against hughes and actually took him down. He made a mistake and got caught, it happens. As far as Trigg submitting hughes..let me kick hughes in the nuts and I bet i can come close to catchign him in somethign too
-
You think he has lost skill since then or what? anyone is vulnerable on the ground against someone with a better ground game...just like you are vulnurable standing against someone with better strikes. If anything Matt has improved his ground game...he has won his last two fights by submission on opponets that had never been submitted before.

Question of style

Brazilian Jiu jitsu or sambo would be your next best bet if you dont have a good judo school nearby. -
Leg attacks
TJS replied to KUNTA KINTE's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Foot locks can be a crutch for passing gaurd..but these days some people have some insane open gaurds that are nearly impossible to pass and having a dangerous foot lock arsenal can open up opportunities to pass. -
I would like to add one more thought. Having a strong base in BJJ will make you more confident in your throws and takedowns because you know if you dont get them or get taken down you will be fine fighting from your back. I have noticed this lately..Im more willing to try a throw because i know if I dont get it I will be ok working from my gaurd.

BJJ and JJJ
TJS replied to Matrix0978's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
overall I agree but there are drawbacks..alot of the new sport jiu jitsu moves will get you clobered in a real fight or MMA bout. As long as people know the diffrence between sport jiu jitsu an self defense/vale tudo they will be fine though. -
Striking in Judo

Read Kodokan Judo by Jigoro Kano...it's in there with pictures and illustrations. -
If you look at it Belfort has all the tools to beat wandy. He has better jiu jitsu and has proven it on a wolrd level like ADCC. Better wrestling, and better standup from a technical point of view. The only advantages I would give Wandy are maybe a slight punching power advantage and possibly a better clinch game. once again this is IF Vitor could ever get his head on straight. Chuck also fought a poor fight against rampage and i would like to see a rematch. Rampage was actually offered a title shot at chuck but declined. as far as chuck/wandy goes I would give it a 50/50 chance of either guy knocking the other one out...chuck hits harder but wandy has more technical standup.

I think Vitor, chuck and Randy all have a very legit chance at beating W Silva. Tito and Vitor already have. UFC HW division isint very deep but but the MW and welterweight divisions are stacked...Nick Diaz, Karo, Hughes, Trigg, St pierre could all do very well in japan i think. Dave terell, and Rich franklin are top notch in the MW category. Yves Edwards just had an impressive win in pride aswell.
-
He wont be in pride he already tired to negotiate a deal with them. But your right The UFC rules and cage suite his stlye much better than pride or K-1 mma rules...taking away his elbows would be a big loss for him..as well as being able to knee/kick a downed opponet. look at his fight against vitor...he would have eaten atleast 20 knees to the head with the amount of time he spend scrambling on his knees in front of vitor after takedown attempts.
-
Actually 7 out of 8 of Randys last fights have ended in a TKO, KO or ref stoppage. Tito was the only fight that went to a decision but he does tend to have a slow methodical stlye. As far as Tito Goes he wants like $300k just to show up so dont expect to see him back in the UFC unless he changes his mind. he may fight in K-1 but we will see.

No they won't. If they have you fishhooked you won't be able to move your mouth into position to bite him because he has control of your jaw. And it can rip apart the lining in your jaw if they yank hard. Your talking about using two hands/fingers on each side right? The type Tank did was only on one side of the mouth and that is what I was refering too.
