I got 35 out of 35. There's only 7 questions
-
Why kill someone so they don't have to suffer ? Wouldn't they suffer more locked in a maximum security prison, no contact with anyone, just 4 walls and bread & water ?
-
I compete in tournaments as often as I can. It's good to fight against people you've never fought before and pick out any weaknesses in your own game. IMO, the person who comes away from a tournament 'losing' has a won a lot more if they can turn the loss into trainig harder and working on their weaknesses. After doing that, they go into another tournament and test what they have been training on, if all is okay, find more weaknesses to work on. It's continous.

I'd use the stance I spar with, otherwise why use a stance in sparring if you're not going to use it in a fight ?

New Jiu-Jitsu Books Released
Bon replied to KickChick's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Which pass is that ? From memory none of them do, providing you do it right. =p I know a few guard passes and it's easy to get caught in a triangle if you have one arm in and one arm out. The arm you're not underhooking with at the time must have the elbow of that arm tightly against your hip. If the pass isn't working for you, try another pass! Have you tried controlling the knees, pushing them to one side & placing your weight on them, then moving up into side control ? Double underhooks, getting to your feet, stacking them, then moving into side control, or flipping them over ? BJJ Theory & Technique is a really poor book which includes moves that are just added to fill up the book. Tying up the belt, elbows & sidekick (performed very poorly!), get out of simple wrist locks. Don't plan on buying Gene Simco's book 'cause of the $20 US postage. When I get the cash I'm going to buy John Will's book which you can get at http://www.bjj.com.au (has samples of his techniques too) , I've been to his seminars and the way he teaches is nothing short of phenomenal and I'm confident the quality of his books will be very high. His latest books are geared at incorporating grappling & striking -

G95champ, weights are not 'fancy', they are more effective and efficient. It's called technology, technology rules and it's impossible to stop the growth of technology.

The power in the side kick comes from twisting your pivoting foot. Thought I'd mention that since I don't think anyone mentioned it.

I like Jack's post.. I was gonna use a vechile analogy for transporting 1 tonne of tomatoes to another state. Which car ? Small car, medium car, family car, truck. Obviously the truck. Yet, a plane might be even better if we're moving big distances from state to state in America. The characteristics of the car correspond to the characteristics of the art which a person can take advantage of depending on their personal characteristics and goals.

Cheating? Is there such a thing?

If you go to hit me, I'm assuming you want to hurt me. Depending on who you are and the danger I feel I'm in, I'll react accordingly. I react proportionally to the danger I'm in. If I feel I'm in no danger, I'll laugh at you and walk away, especially if you're some guy who's cut over a girl or whatever.. =p If I feel you can fight or hurt me, I won't hold back, I wanna try and drop you as fast as I can. There was a time if somoene did so much as even touch me, I would have unleashed. I'm more likely to take the fight to the ground in a one on one. Multiple attackers ? ANYTHING I can do to survive. In a one on one, I won't go for 'foul tactics' unless I feel I'm in real danger. -
If I can lift a heavy weight for 8-12 reps, I can lift a light weight more. I'm after intensity than moving big weights. Good form is important for intensity, if you're losing form, the weight is too heavy. Bruce Lee lifted heavy weights for long periods of time. =p He went futhur than what most of us do, we generally do heavy weights & low reps, or light weights & high reps. He could hold a 65lb dumbell in his hand while holding his arm out horizontally for over a minute.

Heh, IQ tests are flawed really. They're not a good indication of intelligence, IQ tests have been specifically designed so that people who do well academically do well in IQ tests. IQ tests are good for selecting people who wish to enter a certain school or University, but are not a good measure of people's intelligence. I don't believe you don't have to do well academically to be intelligent. Also, what about the people who have never made the effort at school unlike others, so their brain isn't trained the same way as people who do 5 hours of study a night ? *shrugs*, as far as I'm concerned, if a person kills someone with a gun or in any other way, they must have known what the result was going to be, otherwise they wouldn't have done it.

Getting choke in guard
Bon replied to K4j4 S1n1s's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Punchdrunk, nice technique, never seen it before, I'll give it a go tonight. If somone grabs my lapel I generally grab my gi above their hand, this is an effective counter for them choking you. So if someone grabs the right hand side of my lapel with their right hand, I grab my right hand side of the lapel with my left hand above their hand. -

Ah, got it now.. =) I'm from Australia anyway, buddy. -
I think it's sad if you watch Big Brother... *shrugs, only my opinion though

I'm assuming you need the Java Virtual machine reinstalled from the link KickChick provided and all should be sweet.

Machado BJJ / Rickson's school
Bon replied to Punchdrunk's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
John Machado ? I'm a little confused.. I thought it was John Will who received his black belt from the Machado brothers and opened up clubs in Australia & New Zealand calling it Machado Jiu Jitsu. -
LOL! You really contradicted yourself there. What is it that makes you feel you need to cross train in other arts along with karate ? You can't say JKD is similar to karate, because it's in no way similar to karate! It's like saying x equals y, when clearly, it doesn't!

I don't know much about TKD blocking. but, I don't really like blocks. The only thing I block is my left jaw by tucking my chin into my shoulder and my right jaw by covering it with my hand, keep my elbows tucked in tight to my ribcage when on the defensive. The only other block I employ is with my shin for kicks. Ideally, it's best not to be there at all.

I agree with jamak on this one, I will never wash my belt. My last belt had blood on it and I took pride in having a worn belt with blood stains on it. =p

Tournaments and Weight
Bon replied to Sin Style's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
People on this board aren't familar with the tournament rules that you're going to enter. Every tournament has different rules and the rules might even vary from tournament to tournament down there. -
Withers, you seem to contradict yourself in your posts.. I guess being a programmer, you wouldn't happen to be logical at all would you ? What language(s) do you actually program in ?

Don't underestimate the power of my chi!
