Taikudo-ka, very good post. =) -
Definitely traditional, although I will train in anything that I think will work on the street, whether it's sport, or tradtional.

KickChick, interesting article, I guess he's trying to filter out the people who haven't got it to open their own dojo.

You should welcome 'losing', when you 'lose' you learn something. Even when you 'win', there are still many things you can learn. Winning is not the be all and end all. Focus on the process, not the end result.

You had no idea of the martial arts ? Why make such bold statements implying that you KNOW ? You seem pretty confident in that statement to me. People who have no idea generally don't go around stating things. I thought you normally asked questions when you didn't know things ? I keep hear you saying you're aggressive, why is that ? Does that make you a superior martial artist to less aggressive martial artists ? You're saying you can't be aggressive in grappling arts ? I am naturally a very aggressive person and like to out power my opponents, even if it means I can't walk the next day. Aggresion isn't everything, along with aggression comes anger. _________________ It takes sacrifice to be the best. There are always two choices, two paths to take. One is easy. Yeah, I did freestyle kickboxing for a year which had akido in it, I thought I was learning how to grapple as well. I eventually woke up to myself and realised I'd better find a real grappling art. I haven't even done BJJ for 6 months yet, but I feel confident fighting anyone on the ground who hasn't done any grappling. Akido takes a LONG time to learn and as soon as you apply some resistance the techniques become useless.

What is Everyones Actual Rank and Form Of Martial arts?
Bon replied to TKD_McGee's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Yeah, in BJJ it goes white, blue, purple, brown, black. 4 stripes to each belt before you can test for your next coloured belt. Basically, 5 stripes make up a belt. -

Eye of the Tiger, you're saying grappling is a waste of time and you don't even know what BJJ is ? How informed you are to make such statements! haha, I don't even know why I bothered dignifying it with a response. If someone who's dedicated 20 years of there life to stand up skills starts training in BJJ and can say ground fighting is the ultimate, I know I'm doing the right thing by getting into MMA focusing on ground work. -
I can't say I agree with your grading system, that means anyone can 'buy' a black belt regardless of whether they earnt it or not. I do agree that making attending x amount of classes part of being able to test for your black belt as well as being able to perform at that level.

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words can shatter the soul..

lol, exactly what I mean! It's annoying and I probably don't do a girl a favour if I spar with them by not hitting them hard. I've always been cautious since the first time I sparred with a girl I made her cry. I don't have to worry about that much anymore since there's only been a couple of girls come into a class full of guys rolling around on the floor.
-
Have you ever grappled, man ? First class I went to, I was using brut strength against smaller opponents. Resistance is futile! Heh. It was really frustrating being more aggressive than your opponent, then being controlled and submitted with relative ease. I think grappling is good for women to take up, the guard is almost exactly how they will end up if someone tries to rape them. It's soo easy to sweep someone from the guard who has no knowledge of grappling. If you don't have the technique right, no amount of power will be much good. I'm not saying an extremely weak person will be able to submit people, explosive power is good, but technique comes into play much more than strength.

I've got a pool cue, I've snapped it in half over my leg, effectively giving me two sticks. Are you saying you're not going to fear me with 2 sticks in my hands which can shatter bones into a thousand pieces because it wasn't designed for fighting ? It was designed to hit that little white ball on the pool table.

A lot of the girls out there who take some form of martial arts don't appear to be capable of defending themsevles. I'm talking about the ones who are really akward in sparring, just stand there, don't hit anyone and if they do, it's so light, it's like a fly landing on you.. However, I met one chick who I'd put my money on to drop a guy any day!

Most useful techniques
Bon replied to fightguy's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
It's pretty hard to hit the knee cap in sparring or in a real fight, especially when your opponent is moving around and/or charging at you. My personal favourite is a crushing thigh kick, I love those, so powerful and easy. I also like a front kick with the lead foot, very quick and you can generate a lot of power with it. I love elbows, elbows are extremly powerful and when you think about it, a much safer bet, there's only one part of your body that can stuff up, that's your shoulder. When you punch, you've got you fist, forearm and shoulder that can stuff up. Bigger opponent ? How big are you ? I'm around 180, not really big or small, I actually feel quite small considering some of the guys I wrestle with are around 220+.. Are you talking about fighting a bigger opponent on the street or in sparring ? I wouldn't know, haha, I like to think I'm the big dude, even when I'm not. -

Whats your favourate Martial Art?
Bon replied to Eye of the Tiger's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I have to agree, I assume everybody's favourite martial art would be the one they train in, else they wouldn't train in it. Spectator ? Still the same.. =D -
KickChick, thanks, that's the post I was waiting for! =p Btw, a little hard to worry about your breathing when a guy has knee on stomach, heh. So an orange or bannana before training would be a good idea ?

Black belt in a year ? Seems a little quick..

Blah, I'm literally almost asleep here and I have been skimming posts. No good arguments, same old, same old. I went to read the link to the last article, but saw two guys in some ridiculous stance where they would get there head knocked off.
