Ever had to use your MA in a real sreet fight
cross replied to a topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Thats a good idea Warp!!! In answer to your question, no i havnt had to use my martial arts in a real fight. I am pretty tall for my age so the people that think they are tough guys try to push me or whatever but they usually settle down when i look like i will fight back. -
Yeah, i think it would be time better spent if they focused on restraint techniques and weapon skills. But in saying that they don't just learn how to strike in these classes they learn how to block and parry also. The most common attack from someone resisting arrest is going to be a strike. so at least they can defend themselves against it.

It all comes down to the teacher. A good school has a dedicated teacher, someone who teaches things the student enjoys and allows the student to experiment with things that are not regularaly used in the style. Also the teacher must allow the student to choose there own path and not expect the student to be a clone of himself.

I use both. Front leg is quicker, less telegraphed, requires less movement and is powerful due to force generated from back leg. A mae geri with the front leg is a good way to stop your opponent in their tracks.

If you learn the techinque at your school, even if its taken from another style its still apart of your style because you are practising it.

This is a site i found about him http://www.society.webcentral.com.au/patrick.htm I have also spoken with one of his students who is apart of http://www.karatejitsu.com

You learn all the stuff that the other peeps said. And you learn the techniques of your style better, how they flow in combinations and a base for literally thousands of applications.

Taken from an article by: Eyal Yanilov and Jon Hegan. This description is of course for Krav Maga. But i could think of no better words to describe the style of karate i do.

Congrats Man. I live in australia myself. I see John's articles in blitz martial arts magazine a fair bit. He is the real-deal and by the sounds of it, you are too. Nice Work. -
Ok, so you come on here asking for help and then you tell a person who is trying to help you that you want to show them what pain is. After you ask what techniques you should use in a full contact tournement. You sound very unprepared and i doubt you will have much chance if you don't know what techniques to use in a tournement you signed up for.

Just keep hitting it until you physically cant. Thats good for fitness. And just work on basic combinations. -

I read a few articles about KM, it seems like a simple and effective style. -
What do you think about Mundines decision to postpone the fight due to the flu? How do u think the fight will pan out? and what do u think of the fighters? Echols has great power in both hands and may knock mundine out like Ottke did. And mundine has very fast and powerful hands so he might land a few more shots than Echols and out box him.
