  1. I use, heavy bag, focus mits, speed ball etc. And i grappling dummy i made myself. Simple design. Get an old jumper and a pair of long pants, fill them with paper or rag and tape up all the holes. No offense Sho-ju, but i dont think a heavy bag has the correct "assets" to work has a grappling dummy. I mean no arms or legs and not really shaped like a human.
  2. Bruce= quick Mas= strong Im not saying anymore because i dont see the point in comparing dead people, becuase in the end your just trying to find another way of saying " jeet kune do vs. Karate"
  3. If you dont like it the only thing i can surgest is talk it over with your sensei or stop training. You can't expect not to be hit while taking part in something like karate. Getting hit by a car makes you stronger???
  4. "The Easton Assassin" Larry Holmes. Held the heavyweight title longer than anyone.
  5. Some kickboxing schools i have seen use coloured training singlets to denote grade. You could maybe put a club logo on them has well. And you could use a similar colour system to karate.
  6. Depends who the people are.

  8. the only thing i know is: It was invented by a red grasshopper after he talked to some fairies about how best to eat magic cheese.
  9. How can he help people and give to charity when he recently delared he is bankrupt.
  10. dunno about american ving tsun, but the ving tsun i have heard about is said to be "one of the most progressive self defence systems today". Its very similar to wing chun.
  11. I agree. I dont do kung fu, but this carries over to karate has well. People always say, traditional styles have no application on the street. But, all the techniques are there, most people just dont try and find out which ones work for them and how they should use them. Has for 7 star kung fu, i found 2 websites that may give you a bit of information: http://www.itswahq.freeserve.co.uk/ http://www.mantiskungfu.com/
  12. I saw a recent fight between 2 guys that was worth $300 000 to the winner. I guess if your good you get lots
  13. yeah, if he can make it in the UFC the he can make it anywhere
  14. Thanks for you post, could you give a couple of examples has to why you think they are vastly different?
  15. Metsubushi, The person you are talking about sounds ignorant has well. Remember there are good and bad people in all styles.
  16. depends what type of kickboxing your talking about. american , thai. Savate is french foot fighting.
  17. If karate and martial arts in general became more popular, i think that alot more people would participate just because its "cool" and "popular" so the skill level of the students would decrease and the ability to find dedicated students would deminish.

    The End

Maybe you could organise something with your instructor, like he might let you train for a while with no change or you could set up an account or something, its worth a try.
  19. Here are some quotes from Jackie Chan: "all the styles are almost the same, only the titles are different." "i studied a number of arts and realised that only boxing was different, they punch different, but the other arts are almost the same" "hapkido, tae kwon do, karate - the same, there just a little different in some small aspects" "its like guns, there are hand guns, machine guns, but they are all guns" From my experiance in martial arts i pretty much agree with this. Although no one style is exactly the same, they are pretty much similar. The point im trying to make is, dont sit around on this forum posting things like "which style is better". Thats like asking what colour hair is better. What is good for someone else may not be good for you. So if you wanna find out the best style for YOU, get out there are experiance some arts, then make the choice for yourself.
  20. yeah, i wouldnt let it worry you, some people are just like that. Has long as you enjoy what your doing dont worry about what others say.
  21. Thanks for your replies. Here are my thoughts: It teaches you the full range of the movement and the correct body mechanics. So then you can perform the technique from any position while maintaining the correct mechanics and maximising power.
  22. Why do most traditional martial arts teach with the hand chambered at the side?
  23. Partly true Warp. Also if they see you put up a good defence of a ready to fight they may leave you alone.
