[POLL] Internal or External
cross replied to Nick_14's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
I think a good mixture of both, your external techniques can only get so strong before internal comes into play. Styles such as wing chun that rely on internal structure basically get most of there strength from the alignment they develop inside, shoulders sealed, hips correctly positioned etc. So its all part of combat and neither really should be neglected. -
I think cowards are the people who challenge others to try and make themselves seem tough.

I dont drink.

Jeff if you read the question you will see this topic is about your hand position when guarding and for defence, not the bjj guard position. thanks anyway for your input, even if it is alittle off topic.

Is JKD too complicated?
cross replied to cymry's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
hahaha, you've really done your research. -
Thats completely correct. People think that the biceps look much better but actually if you look at your arm the tricep is a much bigger muscle.

TKD Fighting Stance(s)
cross replied to delta1's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I'll just add 1 way i use the front stance. When sparring its good to move forward from your basic fighting stance into the forward stance while throwing a technique. This is a great way to close distance between yourself and your opponent. And depending on when you put your front foot it can be in a position to sweep your opponent. -
The Dying Art

If your asking what TKD is then its tae kwon do. -
They are used for different things so i dont consider one more effective than the other. E.g. If you use a roundhouse punch to go around your opponents guard then it would be more effective than using a cross which would just hit your opponents guard. Other times its better to use a cross because its more direct and you waste less movement.

The only thing i know is heavy weights and swimming are good forms of resistance training.

Practice them slowely to start with, then add them to your sparring. The best tips i can give without being able to show you individual techniques is this: 1. Make sure you are close enough and keep moving 2. Dont go just for the lock, combine it with strikes and be prepared to flow into other locks if the first doesnt work.

Is JKD too complicated?
cross replied to cymry's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Or you could say that MMA is alot like JKD. The big difference is: MMA: take things that work in the ring. JKD: take things that work in self defence. -
If you are punching correctly its nearly impossible to hit with just your main 2 knuckles. Why do i say this? because when you punch you should be driving your fist through your target which means that nearly the whole surface of your fist will be touching the target. Try not to think of just your main 2 knuckles touching, but rather these 2 creating a point that will pentrate your target and lead the way for the rest of your hand to strike through.

Dont take this the wrong way, but that is one of the most un-educted things i have ever heard.

JKD is more about simplifying things. So insteed of learning alot of stuff you dont need, you just learn the things that you do need, making it simpler than most arts. And the people talking about JKD and point fighting obviously have no idea what JKD is. -
I noticed that i had sore knees when i was growing also. The pain went after not to long, just takes time for your body to adjust. If it keeps up see a doctor just to make sure.

I will answer you question by telling you what i eat. I don't have a strict diet but i try to eat: Fruit, veg, pasta, rice, chicken, meat, fish, yogurt, bread and things like this. Some fast food is ok but not in huge amounts. Same for lollies etc. Save them for "special occasions". In general things that a grown naturally are best.

You are not to old and you wouldnt be an olympic contender anyway, because karate aint in the olympics, unless..... no that would never work..

Really? I find side kicks to be second only in speed to the front kick. If you feint or strike to the face you can push the side kick low and take them in the stomach, groin, knee, or front of thigh. This can be used to distract, push them away, or hurt them.

K-1 Premium 2003 Dynamite
cross replied to Ali's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
The only person i know of that competes in a k1 event is Tony Antoniou. He is a black belt in tkd but now trains at a kickboxing school. -
I have seen that guard before and although it works good most if the time and your body is turned you still leave the right side of your face open at some times.

Exactly right Goju1, If someone throws a punch at you and you block it really hard the first time, they will usually think twice before trying it again.
