  1. Try not to classify the people you spar, so dont think of him as a boxer. Just thing of him as another person, use your normal gameplan and if you are better than him you should do well.
  2. Found this site, should give you a bit of info about the history. http://web.utk.edu/~utmaclub/jjhistory.html
  3. I dont have anything against aikido. I used to train in aikido actually. I just found your post funny. ^^^ see, thats pretty funny. Considering you are willing to risk your life just so you can keep your wallet. Unless you carry around millions of dollars i dont think attacking the person is a very good choice.
  4. Agreed.
  5. We arnt in the time of feudal japan anymore turonaga.
  6. Talk to your instructors, or buy a martial arts magazine which will probably contain the details of a number of different suppliers.
  7. I didnt want to imply that stance isnt important, they are highely important, but its not the main thing your going to be thinging about. We train stances all the time so they are natural when we are fighting.
  8. I agree with this, also in self defence you are not going to be worried what stance you are in, attack and escape is all that you should be thinking about.
  9. I switch sometimes but generally lead with the left. I am left handed. So its strong side forward for me.
  10. Out our dojo the instructor either, doesnt not make contact or warns us if there will be contact and it is normally light anyway.
  11. Instead of: parry, parry, parry, hit. I prefer: parry, hit, parry, hit, parry, hit.
  12. If arnt fast enough to block it then i doubt you will be fast enough to tense your stomach in time to take it.
  13. Blocking/evading its probably a better option.
  14. 1. Cover up and take it on the forearms. or.. 2. block with your arm. The arm position for the is similar to the hook punch and your forearm hits them near the inside joint of the elbow. (hard to explain).
  15. Good use of the pre-emtive strike . Bad luck about the charges.
  16. Thanks for the advice Sevenstar.
  17. What are some of the advantages and disadvantages of the boxing guard(absorbing punches on forearms) vs. blocking/parrying each technique?? Also does forearm on forearm contact cause more damage than fist on forearm contact? thanks...
  18. You should try and correct this habit by focusing on 1 point all the time and using pereferal vision to see everything else that is coming.
  19. Competiting in tournaments is optional at our school. I choose not to compete. In sparring the contact ranges from light to medium depending on the ability of the student. We allow all strikes, sweeps, takedowns, and continue to fight when it goes to the ground.

    Both Hands

Also it makes you seem like you are twice as fast because you are doing 2 things at once.
  21. Practise each technique until you know what its for, the correct way to do it and can use it effectively. Once you can do this with each technique put it all together.
  22. This information comes from http://www.vkcvt.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/SchoolPolicy.htm <<< take a look.
