Do all these "stratergies and tactics" really work
cross replied to dancin_ash's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Nice post kid. Im sure we are all going to be asking for you to share your many years of knowledge with us. If you took some of the advice onboard you may have handled yourself better when you got jumped, or hit in the head with a bottle. I doubt that many of us would disagree with this. -

Help Please-Pankration
cross replied to shanemm's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
You didnt look very hard. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pankration and http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&safe=off&q=pankration&meta= -
Chirath, work on technique first, then get power later. If you try and go all-out without using proper technique you will hurt yourself.

We cant really decide what school is best for you, the only advice i can give is to go to each school and talk to the instructor and students, then decide which one you like best. It appears you have your training routine well organised. Keep that up. For conditioning of striking surfaces, the only conditioning i do is hitting the heavy bag and focus mitts. Forming callous' or deadening the nerves won't do you much good.

Is Wing Chun For a Beginner?
cross replied to Matousek's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
All martial arts are designed for beginners. You progress from the level you are already at. So wing chun is good for beginners, just like its good for advanced students. -

Judo vs BJJ vs Jujutsu
cross replied to zerohour's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
This is just some very general information that should set you on your way. Judo: Main focus on throws/takedowns with some ground work. Bjj: Main focus on ground work with some throws/takedowns. Jujutsu basically is the art that came before karate, aikido and judo. It includes the aspects of each of these arts. Like I said, this is very brief. If you need more specific info on a certain aspect im sure myself or many of the other member will be able to help you out. -
Bottom line is, If you are learning alot and happy with the training that you are recieving then you should continue. If not either: 1. talk to the instructor about your issues. or. 2. Leave and find a school that provides for your needs.

Why not ask your instructor if he/she can teach you more hand techniques??

specialk0783 wrote: I dont think you understand my point, so ill try and explain further. When you spar someone, there are only so many things they can do, e.g punch, kick, grapple. Hopefully in whatever art you study you have learned how to apply your techniques in such a way that you can defend against these actions or stop them from happening altogether. Obviously boxers are very good at one of the decribed areas, that is punching, so you want to hope that you have learned some very good ways to defend against punches or not give him the oppertunity to use his punching to begin with. Then you must attack back, so you do whatever it is you normally do, punch, kick, or grapple. In this way your gameplan stays the same nomatter who you are sparring.

Good Luck Ted, im sure you will do very well and it will be an experience to remember.

The only "drills" we do for kumite are isolated kumite meaning just using hands one round, just using feet next round etc. We also do randori which is alot lighter than kumite and the idea is to try new techniques that you need to work on.

Never heard of "Motobu kumite", but i have heard of CHOKI MOTOBU. >>> http://www.usadojo.com/biomotobu.htm
-
I dont know many people who would call that luck.
-
Great idea. People wont always agree with you, thats important to remember.

Oh, ok. Thank you White Warlock.

Wing Chun Fun!
cross replied to Mu Ryuk's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Concidering you dont actually learn wing chun, try applying some techniques on the dummy from the art you actually study (by the looks its Tang Soo Do). -
Lets show some maturity here and just forget about it.

airing out boxing gloves
cross replied to zerolimitii's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
I find using a hairdryer for a short time on the inside of the glove works well to circulate the air and helps get rid of the smell. -
Why bother?? If your happy with the training you are doing then it doesnt matter what people on the other side of the world, who you will never meet, and sit around posting on a games forum, have to say. Im sure "Quasi ELVIS" is a leading authority on martial arts and his views should be taken has gospel.
