  1. Im pretty sure its not coming back.
  2. If you go to the ground your plan should be to get back up asap. Its hard to escape/run while your laying on the ground.
  3. This is true if the person isnt shown how to apply the blocks. There is a difference between how the blocks are taught in kihon and the application in sparring/self defence.
  4. Just like any other martial art it has potential.
  5. All Sevenstar and I said was: Theres a DIFFERENCE between visualisation and application. You can visualise all you want but unless you can do the techniques against a resisting opponent, it means nothing.
  6. Both are good for self-defence. I doubt you will be exposed to a very high level of contact for extended periods. Some contact won't do to much damage. Its completely up to you. Watch a class and talk to the instructors and students about what you want to archieve. take the cost of each school into consideration also and findout if the training times are suitable for you.
  7. You mean the Wu Tang Clan ?? lol Damn KKK..
  8. Visualisation and application are 2 different things.
  9. Most boxers should be able to avoid this in any number of ways.
  10. Also modern karate is ususally more focused on competiton.
  11. Both have benifits, I would be inclined to say 'modern' martial arts are more effective. But if a traditional martial art is trained in a realistic way(which is possible) then it would be equally effective.
  12. For kumite: Keep your guard UP. I have seen at comps alot of people dont hold their guard high enough and when they have to block techniques to the face they have no chance.
  13. You should probably just say you have "experiance" in tkd or have trained in it before.
  14. Usually you sweep with the underside of your foot, its best to use your hands to help your opponent on his way. Make sure you sweep as close to the foot as possible because the closer you get toward the hip the less effective the sweep will be. Hope that helps.
  15. Its called practice. Talk to your instructor about it. If he doesnt help, find another school.
  16. We have a boxing gym next door to us. Havnt had any problems.
  17. Slipping and footwork are the most effective defensive techniques taught in boxing. Often you combine slipping with parrying. Hopefully your hands will be up to defend against that.
  18. There are much better things to do with a knife.
  19. Wado teaches more strikes and the basic strikes will probably be learned more quickly. Judo on the other hand, teaches throws and grappling which may take you a bit longer to get the 'feel' for. In saying that, the best way for you to decide is to try both arts and many will agree that if you train in both they will compliment each other nicely.
  20. You want to take your eyes off the opponent for the shortest time possible, this means turning your head quickly so your can see what your doing.
  21. May work well in competition, but as for self defence it has limited application.
  22. But dont ju jitsu players practice it in the same way as judo players?
  23. I dont think turning your back would be such a good idea.
